I was trailing Nate's footsteps. Walking behind him as we walked through the front door of, what I assumed, must have been his dad's house.
"Nate?" I heard someone call out.
"Were here!" He said as Jeremy hugged Nate.
"Good to see you again, Imogen." He said.
"You too... I guess." I said meaning 'why am I here?'
"Dad... Um I need to explain everything to Gen... Help me out." He said to Jeremy.
"Okay... Come in Hun." He led us into the living room and we sat on the couch.
"So, I got a call from a guy called Nick. Nick Daley. He works for the Law Agents, good friend of mine." He smiled.
"But he works for the Law Agents..." I repeated.
"He does, and he phone to say that... That... They know what happened... Well they think they do." He told me.
"Think?" I asked.
"Finch called me too." Nate said. "He overheard Zeke on the phone to one of the Agents. Said he lied about all of it. Told them that I stole you from him and the needed to find us." My heart was thumping so loud, I'm surprised they couldn't hear it.
"Oh god... Oh god..." I started breathing really heavily.
"Gen... Calm down. It's going to be fine. Just breath." His hands on my shoulders. Our eyes locked. "Can you get her a glass of water please, dad?" He nodded and went into the kitchen.
"Nate.. It's all my fault." I lowered my head.
"Gen, look at me." He gently lifted my head. "I chose to be with you. You chose to be with me. This is more my fault than yours. I kissed you. You didn't kiss me first. I could have kept my feelings a secret... But I didn't. I didn't have to talk to you in the Café... But I did." He kissed my forehead.
"I'm glad you did." I smiled, my breathing nearly normal again. I realised that Jeremy was stood at the door the whole time, smiling at us.
"Here's your water." He handed me the glass. "They probably phoned your parents too." He reminded me.
"That's why we rushed out of their." Nate said. "Oh and Mrs. Bradbury grabbed this. Told me to give it to you." He handed me my phone.
"She's amazing!" I laughed.
"She sure sounds it." Jeremy agreed.
"So what now?" I took a sip of water.
"You have to pack. Then go." Jeremy blatantly told us.
"Dad?!" Nate was shocked.
"Your dad has a point Nate." I agreed with Jeremy.
"Look, son. I'd love to have you and Imogen stay with me. You both need to know that. But the Agents will be looking for you here. Just promise you will call every now and again to be safe." He said.
"We will." Nate answered him.
We went upstairs to Nate's room. It was so him. Sounds strange to say but it was. His white walls covered in posters and pictures of his childhood. Blue bed. Black wardrobe. Black carpet. Old school books and work on the side. Video games and controllers in a pile on the small glass coffee table. A beanbag for when he is on his console. I saw a picture of Nate, Jeremy and a woman.
"Is this your mum?" I asked.
"Yeah." He took the picture off the wall and studied it. Smiling at the memory.
"She's really beautiful." I said.
"Too bad she's gone." He said, stuffing the picture into his back pocket.
"Nate-"
"So, helping me pack?" He threw a duffel bag onto his bed. Casually ignoring the conversation about his mum.
Nate told me about his mum when we were in mid-driving. He said that she died when he was 9. His dad never really got over that. That's why Nate didn't want to leave to go 'find that person' he was never interested. He just wanted to help his dad. His dad told him that love is from the heart. Your actual hart. That's why he was so willing to help us.
We packed his things and a few other things we might need.
"So where are we going?" I asked.
"I don't know. Who does." He smiled.
"What?" I asked.
"It's just. The first time I just went anywhere without knowing... I found you... What could get better." He smiled.
"Still got your necklace?" I asked him.
"It's... Um... In the drawer." He pointed to draw and opening it I found that it was smashed.
"NATE!" I shouted.
"What?" He said back.
"Y-you smashed it?!" I said, sort of mad.
"All I need is you. I didn't need a necklace to tell me who I will be with. As soon as I knew it wasn't for you I've wanted to smash it." He said.
"That's so cheesy." I giggled.
"But true!" He said picking up his bag.
"I got you this... While we were on holiday.." He opened up his hand. Showing a bracelet with the word 'Forever' engraved on it.
"N-Nate. It's b-beautiful." A smile grew across my face.
He put it on my wrist then we headed out. We both said good-bye to his Dad, Jeremy. He gave us both massive hugs, told us to be safe and call him whenever we could.
"So were here again." I said as Nash started the engine.
"Traveling without a clue where to go." He added.
"Let's go." I said.
"Let's." He took my hand in his as we set off down the road.
I never thought I'd be in this position this time a few months ago. If you told me that I would be running away from everything I knew with the perfect boy and disobeying all rules I've learnt growing up. Id tell you that you were stupid... but that's what is happening... and I honestly couldn't be happier.
This is all I've ever wanted. to be in love, with a boy, that I knew I could trust... that loved me back... because this is how it should be... okay maybe not the running away part. but how bad could this get... exactly it can't!
