Like a Grape (Shidge AU) [Book 1]

Chapter Two

Pidge felt consciousness slowly come back to her. Her eye fluttered open as she saw the red flashing lights in the castle.

The pod opened up as Pidge fell forward to her knees. She looked upwards and saw Allura manning the castles defense mechanisms.

"What going on?" Pidge asked as she rose from her feet dusting her knees.

"The Galra are here. Pidge, I need you to stay with me." Allura said trying to stay calm.

But instead of heeding Allura's advice, Pidge immediately started to bolt to her lion. Forgetting that she had just came out of a healing pod.

"Pidge! Where are you going?!" Allura questioned worrying about Pidge's safety.

"I am going to help!" Pidge answered already in the elevator heading to the zip line.

"No! Pidge! Don't--" Allura tried to say, but the elevator already closed. "...go..."

Allura than immediately contacted the rest of the group. She pressed a botton on her earring and said "Guys, Pidge is awake and heading to her lion. She wouldn't listen to me."

"SHE WHAT!?" Shiro freaked out. He was a little over protective of Pidge and couldn't stand her getting hurt. What she was doing was dangerous.

"Guys! What's the plan?" Pidge asked activating her lion and heading out to the fight.

"The plan is for you to go back to the castle!" Shiro answered sternly.

"Why?" Pidge asked already taking out a few droids and heading for more.

"You just came out of a healing pod! It could be dangerous!"

"Shiro! It's not like I was recovering from loss of blood! All that happened was Lance knocked me out! What damage could he have done?" She said honestly not wanting to put up with Shiro treating her like a child. He had been doing it for the past year and she was sick of it. When would he realize she was a child anymore?

"Hey! If I wanted to, I could've done a lot of damage!" Lance said butt hurt about her comment.

"Sure." Pidge said sarcastically. "Anyways, I am not a child anymore! I am a Paladin of Voltron! I can take care of myself!"

"Plus," Keith added. "Without her we can't form Voltron."

"Fine." Shiro reluctantly caved. This wasn't something he wanted her to do. Who know what could go wrong. And honestly he had a very bad feeling about this.

The paladins had been fighting with no avail. The Galra had an industuctable ion cannon, but oddly enough, the ship wasn't aiming for the castle, but it still got in the way.

"I have a plan!" Pidge said getting the attention of her team.

"Honestly," Hunk said. "any plan is better than no plan at this point!"

"What do got, Pidge?" Keith asked.

"Lance, Keith, Do you think you can hold off or distract the droid and smaller vessels?"

"Easy! Why do you ask?" Lance commented.

"I think if Shiro, Hunk, and I go in, we can turn it off from the inside."

"How are we suppose to distract them from three other lions!?" Keith questioned.

"You don't. Shiro and I can drop off our lions as we hop into Hunks. So, if anything happens to us, the Galra will only have one lion."

"Why my lion?" Hunk asked.

"Because your lion has the strongest armor and can do a lot of damage." Pidge explained.

"I think we should follow along." Shiro said agreeing with Pidge.

So far, Pidge's plan was working. Lance and Keith were able to distract the Galra as Hunk, Shiro, and Pidge snuck in through the back.

Hunk stayed by his lion to protect, and so they would have a way out, while Pidge and Shiro went to the control room.

Shiro placed his Galra arm on the senser as they were granted access into the room. There Pidge hacked their computer to see if she could disable their ion cannon.

Sadly, it didn't work. In order to disable it, they had to go to the engineering room, no the engineering rooms. There were two. The Galra had gotten smarter.

"I can't Shiro." Pidge said slamming her hands on the keyboard. She had lost all her patients. "We need to head to the engineering rooms."

"Where is it located?" He asked.

"Where are "they" located?" Pidge said. "There are two in order to disable them."

"Okay, where are they?"

"One is just around the corner, and the other is clear on the other side of the ship, by Hunk."

Shiro was heart broke. They would have to split direction. He couldn't protect her. "Which one has more guards?" He asked.

"Why wo--"

"Which one has more Galra, Pidge!?" Shiro rose his voice.

"The one by Hunk." Pidge answered.

"Than I am going there." Shiro insisted.

"But Shiro! We can find a way. We don't have to split."

"Katie! We don't have time! Hunk can't move his position, and if we don't act soon, who knows how many life will be effected." He paused. "NOW GO!"

Pidge immediately started heading for closer engineering room leaving Shiro behind.

He was right. If they didn't act soon, who knows what could happen.

"It's down!" Lance said joyfully. Both Pidge and Shiro were able to make it in a relativally decent amount of time.

"Good. Pidge come over to the yellow lion as quick as you can. They will know you are in there now, so time is running out." Shiro informed.

"Heading there now." Pidge said running towards the location of the yellow lion.

She exited the room, but oddly enough, there weren't any Galra. She found this suspicious, but didn't think much of it, and kept heading onward.

Shiro and Hunk were by the yellow lion fighting off who knows how many Galra. It felt like they just kept coming. Like there was no end to them.

The more Galra there were the less likely Hunk and Shiro could hold them off.

"Pidge, you better hurry! We're running out of time!" Hunk said through the comm.

"I am going as fast as my little legs can take me!" Pidge replied sounding out of breath.

Her speed kept decreasing the more and more she ran. She felt like the other side of the ship was too far. Now, she started to feel light headed.

The knew they weren't good signs, but she couldn't give up now. Her team was waiting on her!

Than came the dizziness. Everything was out of proportion and it became too hard for her to run anymore.

Finnally, she stopped. She needed to take a breather, but that probably wasn't the best idea, for everything turned black as her body fell to the ground.
