Surprise Not!

We finally made it home. We were chilling in the living room watching tv. "So I think tonight we should take my family out. We should tell them tonight". "Khodie I really want to tell my mom and I want you to meet her". "I do too I bet she's as beautiful as you". "She's perfect. You know besides the drugs". "Well how about you call your mom up and tell her to come to dinner tonight". "Really?". "Yes baby call her tell her Ralph's and Kacoos at eight tonight". "Alright".

I hopped up and walked to our bedroom and I grabbed my phone off the charger. I dialed my moms number.  "Hey Mommy.." "Hey sweetheart.. what's up". "Uh I wanted to invite you to dinner tonight at Ralph and Kacoos for a family dinner with Khodie and her family". "Really?". "Yes but please act normal. Like not high or jittery and fidgety". "I will try my hardest". "Okay look nice too ma please. I want them too  like you I do". "I will. I promise Janai" "I love you see you later". "I love you too. Bye". I hung up the phone and skipped back to the living room and I plopped down on the sofa next to Khodie.

I just smiled at her. "So I guess your moms coming?". "Yes she is.. so what are we gonna do? Just say we are engaged or like make it a surprise?".  "Well it kinda is a surprise babe no one knows but my dad". "I think we should look at each other and smile and then I show my ring and we both say we are getting married". "Oh that's cute".

"I'm going to check the mail to see if my acceptance letter came in the mail". "Alright". I got up and I walked outside to the end of our drive way. I checked the mailbox. There was two envelopes from the same school. One has my name and One had Khodie's name on it. I walked back inside and Khodie wasn't in the living room.

"Khodie where are you?". "I'm in the bedroom". I walked to the bedroom Khodie was in the walk in closet. "Why didn't you tell me you applied for college? More importantly the same college I want to go to". "I wanted it to be a surprise. Plus I could use extra studying music is my life. I will go anywhere you going in life". "Well let's see if we got accepted". She pulls me to the bedroom. "Okay you open mines and I will open yours". I smiled at her and she smiled back at me.

"We got accepted". We hugged each other and jumped up and down. "I can't wait for college". "Me either Janai".  "Come on let's start getting ready. I'm actually kind of nervous for you to meet my mom". "Why? She can't be bad as you may seem right". "No she's the best but you know the drug problem so I'm just nervous is all".

Later we were getting ready to leave. I was waiting on Janai. I had on black and white pants and a white button up and black sneakers and a black jacket. Janai had straighten my hair. Janai walked out in a blush deep v dress on and black heels and her hair straight.

"You look beautiful sweetie". "You look beautiful too". I kissed her cheek and we got in the car and went to the restaurant. I got us a big table. It was just me and Janai we were waiting for everyone. My dad and Isla and my sister. "Hey guys. How was you vacation?". "It was perfect dad".

I seen this fair skinned skinny woman with big brown eyes and long straight black hair in a red dress and black heels. "Janai?". She looked nervous. Janai got up and gave her a big hug. I got up and I grabbed a bouquet of roses. "Mom this is Khodie. Khodie this is my mom Sabbi Diaz". "It's very nice to meet you. These are for you". I handed her the flowers. She smiled kindly at me. "Thank you Khodie they are beautiful".

"Danny, Isla and Charlie this is my mother Sabbi Diaz". "Its pleasure to meet you. Janai has been a blessing in our lives. I know it must have scared you when she was gone for so long and I'm truly sorry"Mr. Danny said.  "Yeah I was worried to death about her but I know she's in good hands thank you".

"So why are we here" Charlie said. "Well we had some news to tell everyone". Khodie looked at me and I looked at her and we smiled. "We are getting married" we both said and I showed my ring.

"I'm happy for you two" Isla said and smiled at us. "Oh my baby getting married"my mom then caressed my face and smiled at me. Oh how I missed my mothers touch. "I love you mom". "I love you too".  "This is bullshit" Charlie said as she got up and left.
