Chapter Four: Responsibilities and Annoying People
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Incubus' POV
I sighed in relief and satisfaction as I walked down the silent, dim, windy street. I loved this town the best. The people here had really vivid dreams...I guess it was the constant colds fault; it probably effected their heads...tsk tsk, Canadians. Though, I think I liked the French people's dream better. They were more...unusual yet colourful and fun to mess around with--especially when they stared to scream out French words and curses at their nightmares monsters.
I had just altered and destroyed a mans dream of getting a great job and living rich, into one of a sickness filled and despair one. I enjoyed seeing him squirm in his sleep as he tried his best to wake up. I didn't even make it that scary--just terrible, not frightening.
I had let go of the hold I had on his sleeping body and let him wake up. He was bewildered and looked scared out if his wits. He had questioned to himself if that bad fortune would actually effect him if he went to collage and got that degree he always wanted. I answered his question for him and proceeded to make him scream like a little girl when he heard and saw me. I don't let a lot of my victims see me, but this one, this one was just too scared and his reaction was too funny to leave behind.
I was now strolling leisurely down the street, wondering who I should scare next, or better yet, which person in this sleeping town should I make my new victim. I loved claiming victims, it was like a bunch of girls shopping for new clothes and shoes--exciting and exhilarating.
I counted off and 'recorded' the people that had been visited and effected by me. I heard, from Starlight, that I had actually managed to make one of my favourite victims, Mr. Briggs, a middle-aged man with large hopes and lucid dreams, to go mad. I had actually achieved to make him go crazy. That was a new and impressive accomplishment that I had earned. I deserved one of Starlights gold nighttime stars...
Ironic that I was thinking about Starlight and he showed up. He was almost like a father figure to me. He had been there for me when I was too scared to steal dreams and too good to actually do it and too guilty and for hating myself for what I was created to do. To be honest, I had no idea why I was created. I guess there had to be 'a balance in life' like Starlight always told me; good and bad.
He flew down from where he had been floating around in the dark night sky and started towards me. I stopped walking and looked at him. His feet reached the paved road and started to hurriedly walk towards me, it made me smile at how distraught and annoyed he looked.
"What's up your ass?" I asked jokingly to him and as a reply, he gave me a tight, sarcastic smile that made me laugh.
"Incubus, now isn't the time to joke around. Please listen to me and do as I ask." He seriously and quickly tells me in a hushed voice. I don't know why he was whispering because mostly everyone in this tiny town had to be asleep, and if they weren't, then they would just think of our voices as the whispers of the constant blowing wind.
I nod my head and listened. Starlight never seemed so serious and distressed before, he was usually that kind of guy that always smiled and made random jokes. He had good in him--and I used to too, but now, I was bad--all bad, and Luna and him had openly and happily accepted my evilness even though they weren't all that dark.
"He wants to see you." Is all Starlight says to me and I instantly know who and what he is talking about. I had never met him, but Luna and Starlight had. He was our...creator, I guess you could say. Apparently I was still to young and reckless and unknowledgeable to meet him. Well I guess not anymore.
