•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Chapter Twenty-Three: Nightmares
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Anna's POV
Outside, it was dark as dark, or in other words, like midnight--even though it wasn't even 8 o'clock yet.
The silence in the house was intimidating, especially considering that my dad was home. The only sounds came from the TV and our breathing. I was in the kitchen and he was in the next room over: the living room. He had been watching TV for what seemed like half the day.
Reports on the weather were everywhere and as I read the text message I had gotten a few minutes ago from my friend, Damian, I realized that everyone was freaking over about this normal thunderstorm, except for me.
We got storms like this all the time, so why was everyone in town shutting their doors more firmly, stocking up on candles and charging their flashlights? If it was because of the whole 'power outage' idea, well we got power outages even when it was simply too windy.
Sighing I left the kitchen and walked passed my dad who was lazily sprawled out on the sofa, eyes glued to the TV and walked up the stairs and straight to my purple, dim room.
I didn't bother switching on the lights and instead turned on my bedside lamp. I knew if the power went out, I would be left in the creepy darkness. But at the moment of my intense thoughts, I couldn't have cared less.

By the time the clock had struck midnight, the lights had been long gone. The thunderstorm came rolling in and taking out the power with it. I was trying to fall asleep and usually slept in the pitch black, so it didn't really bother me, especially since every few minutes or seconds apart, a strike of lightning would illuminate the night sky and everything underneath it.
My thoughts were still haunting me and wouldn't let me fall into a sweet sleep. They had (very ordinarily) been about school and friends and family, but then had drastically ventured into more deeper thoughts on...Andrew.
I was just thinking about how he had randomly came into my life and occasionally gave me 'visits' and I ended up going home or thinking later on how much I was starting to like him even though I barely knew anything about him and had just met him. Was this love? Or was I just being over infatuated with him and was taking it too seriously?
Sighing, I picked my head up off of my pillow and stared around my momentarily dark and quiet room. Then, all of a sudden, a strike of brilliant light shine over the ground and in the sky, brightening my room long enough for me to see it outside.
I don't even know what it was. It was just ad freaky as freaky could be, and looked like something out of hell. Maybe it was.
Sucking in a breath, I laid my head down in my pillow and closed my eyes.
"It's nothing. It's nothing. It's not there. You were just dreaming it...even though I don't know why I would be dreaming of it because it was so damn scary that if I had been dreaming of it, I had to be thinking of it--and if I was thinking of it, I would already be too scared to simply conjure it up...Anna! Shut up!" My thoughts would be the end of me.
Opening my eyes again, ever so hesitantly and slowly, I lifted my head up again, to look out the window that my bed (even though a few feet away) directly faced.
I saw nothing. That was because I couldn't see anything from outside due to the obscurity the darkness from the night, held.
Or, it was because there was a giant, smokey, inky black face staring at me -- literally being only an inch away from my already frightened face.
I only came to know that it was a face when it opened its eyes and I saw ruby red iris' stare back at my scared-to-death, green ones. I was so shocked and scared, I didn't even have the breath or thoughts to scream for help.
Frozen with utter fear and shock, I dumbly stared back at it while it bore its glowing eyes into my forehead. All of a sudden, it started to shift from where it was floating on top of me. Feeling the sheets rustle and move while it shifted around only caused my fear to escalate. Maybe because it proved that I wasn't just dreaming or making things up because I could feel it.
I was going to die.
I was pulled out of my frantic, frightened and curious thoughts as I heard it say something. Or it tried to. Opening it's non-existent mouth--which surprisingly held a dozen or so, pointed, black jagged teeth--it rasped out a hollow sounding noise that made a shiver crawl up my spine and all along my arms, raising the tiny hairs.
Shaking, I didn't know what it was saying or what it wanted and simply (and stupidly) shrugged. It didn't seem to understand and breathed its heavy, rotting, stinking breath in my face again. Making the same echoing, screeching, dead and eerie sound again, it moved its smokey face closer toward mine, gazing intently and way too deeply into my eyes. Like it was trying to hypnotize me or something. I closed my eyes as I heard it rasp out another noise again, thinking it was trying to get into my mind, but instead what I heard it say would always be as scary as it would've been if it really way trying to hypnotize me:
"Anna,"
