Anna's POV

I was no longer sitting tied to a tree, watching and hearing disgusting sounds of two humans mauling each other to death because Andrew--that demon--told them to.

Now I was free, no ropes binding me, looking into Andrew's eyes--blue ones, not red ones. The meadow was still there but there were no other people in it except Andrew and I. No humans clawing each other throats out, no yellow eyed, silent people/demons and no dead officer Darwin. And no red eyed, pointy teeth, evil, demon prince Andrew.

I let out a sigh and unfold my arms from around myself. Andrew leans back from crouching closely to me, allowing me space to breathe while he looks down at me. He seemed puzzled, curious and concerned, but who wouldn't when they saw and heard a random teenage girl shrieking at nothing? But even through all those caring emotions, I saw something else.

As I stared deeper and more intently into those blue eyes of his, I learned that looks can be deceiving and maybe to also--sometimes--judge a book by its cover, because in that split moment I saw his eyes reveal something to me. He probably lost some of his concentration or energy because he had also lost the ability to make his eyes look blue. His 'getup' had failed for a beat and his eyes had switched from a deep blue to a bright red in only the amount of time it took someone to blink. Lucky for me, I didn't blink in that moment.

Instantly I jumped to my feet and looked around myself, squinting. If he wasn't Andrew Andrew, and he was the creepy, evil demon prince, then where did all the commotion and death go? Where were those 30 or so other demons and the two dead humans? Why couldn't I hear them?

I shuffled backward until my back hit the tree again. What was going on? Staring at him, I searched for signs that would prove that none if this was real or that in fact, it was real. Though I didn't find signs of either. I was so confused by I couldn't let it show on my face. I did the one thing any other person--who was in my shoes--would do. I asked him a question.

"What's going on?"

"What do you mean 'what's going on?'" he replied seeming confused too. But something about the way his mouth was slightly--barely--tilted and the way his eyes seemed to peer into my soul, it made me rethink everything and instead of asking another question, I turned and ran.

I couldn't hear him behind me so I thought that he wasn't going to follow me, yet I still ran and ran until I thought I was far enough away from him.

Stopping for a breath, I crouch down next to a car, somehow thinking or wishing it would protect me from that nuisance.

But it didn't.

I was leaning, a hand on the side if the black car, heaving air into my lungs, when I saw a set of black boots stop in front of my deprived figure. Instantly, my heavy breathing ceased and I slowly made my gaze towards his face. He was grinning at me with twinkling red eyes and fangs.

"Why do they always run? I don't understand...they already know that they'll be caught anyway"--he licked his red lips--"yet they still run."

I stared up at him for a moment too long and soon realized that even if I do start running again it'll just amuse him, tire me out and also will be of no point or sense. So I stayed there, crouched, staring up at him until he broke the tense silence.

"Are you going to run again? I love chasing my victims."

I shook my head a little too roughly and felt a bit dizzy afterward. He shrugged his shoulders casually and bent down to take hold of my shoulders. He hauled me up to my feet and held me just a bit away from him. He stared into my eyes as I stared into his. I was close enough to see the different colours and flecks in his eyes and also the scared reflection if myself mirrored back at me.

Then, I started to feel lightheaded and a bit like I was floating, but that was because I was floating. Panicked, I started to flail my arms and legs about but it didn't matter or do me any good.

Andrew was floating we me. at ease and looking like he did this all the time. Well, maybe he did.

I looked down to see we were probably high enough to see the tops of houses by now. And around our feet, a cloud, the same red one started to form.

There was no way I could speak or make a sound, I was too shocked and awestruck. Soon we were both engulfed in the smokey cloud and I couldn't see anything but Andrews haunting red eyes staring at me. I looked into them until everything fell into darkness.
