Artemis P.O.V
I felt myself coming to, but my eyes wouldn't open. I could hear noises around me. There was a loud steady beeping in my left ear accompanied by an endless hissing noise. In my right ear I could hear clicking, like someone typing away on a keyboard. I heard two short beeps, followed by an angered growl, and someone punched a desktop. Then what sounded like the wheels of a swivel chair scrape across cement. I heard the chair pop up when the person stood up and their footsteps approach me.
I wanted to tense but my body wouldn't. I realized that I couldn't feel my right arm, not even numbness. I heard the beeping in my ear pick up when my heart rate increased with fear.
My heart monitor, I noted.
I managed a small whimper.
"Shh...You're all right," I heard a man say softly. I felt him gently stroke my cheek with his knuckles, "You're safe."
I was surprised when my heart evened out. I didn't know who this was, yet I felt oddly comfortable with him.
My body did a fast uncontrollable shutter and goosebumps tingled across my skin. I felt my right shoulder turn upwards and a thin sheet was pulled up on my body covering me more than it had been, my shoulder was settled back down. I uncomfortably realized that the sheet was the only thing on my body, no clothes at all.
My monitor spiked with embarrassment. I felt the man settle a heavier blanket over me. "That should help," he whispered.
I groaned.
"I don't know if you're aware or not," he said. "But try sleeping a little longer...the sedatives should wear off soon. I'm not gonna lie though, your arms going to hurt like hell...but I've got painkillers you can take."
I subconsciously nodded. The monitor slowly evened and I fell back asleep.
