Chapter Eight; My Girls and Me

Ginnie Matthews

Jessica came bouncing over to me, followed by a giggling Paige. Actually, she wasn't giggling. She was all out laughing. I sighed, how can they be so happy in this dirt hole? I kicked a rock. "Did you hear the newest gossip?" Jessica asked.

"No.." I said, hoping she wouldn't tell me. By this point, I was sick of gossip.

"On the bus, Tyler told Olivia she was a slut and then she kissed Tanner and asked him to date her and then he said no and then Tyler came out of nowhere and punched her."

"Umm are you sure that's what happened? It doesn't sound like something that would happen," I said.

"Well, what I heard is that Olivia asked Tyler out and he rejected her and then she kissed Tanner and called him a dog!" Paige said.

"Whatever, I don't care," I said.

I put my arms around them. "As long as I've got my girls, I don't care what anybody says or does."

We started walking to our cabin along with the rest of our friend group: Emily, Morgan, Sonia, Annie, Charlie, and Bailey. We all lugged our suitcases up a hill and stopped at the door to our cabin. My mouth dropped. "We're supposed to sleep in here..?" Morgan complained.

"No way. There must be some mistake. My mom wouldn't send me somewhere like this," Paige informed us.

We all nodded in agreement.

"C'mon guys, it'll be fun. Let's just make the best of it," Jessica said.

She hopped onto a bed and plopped her suitcase on top. You see, this is why I love Jessica. She is a natural born leader.

"Sure, I'm in," I said placing my suitcase on the bunk on top of hers.

She smiled widely at me and then at everyone else.

"Don't count me out on all the fun." Paige skipped over and climbed onto the bed across from me.

After that, Bailey took the bed under Paige, and Emily, Morgan, Sonia, Annie and Charlie went into the next room.

"Good job, Jessica," I praised.

"Thanks, but seriously, I hate it here," she whispered in my ear.

I snorted.

Sometimes, Jessica can talk the talk, but she just can't walk the walk.
