Chapter Forty Two; Violets

Oliver Newman

"She's so... Cute," I heard myself whine, as Tyler and Tanner placed down their lunch trays and sat next to me at our usual table.

Tyler followed my gaze and a look of devastation took over his face. "..you still like Ginnie? C'mon man, I thought we agreed!"

"No! Not Ginnie, Jessica!" I pointed to Jessica who was about two inches to Ginnie's left.

"You're kidding, right?" Tanner questioned.

I pouted. "No, Tanner, I'm not kidding!"

"Then why did you dump her?"

I didn't answer. I just watched as she giggled, smiled, and sighed for the next half hour. "Hey Tyler?" I asked, but received no answer. "Tyler?"

I looked up to see him exiting the cafeteria, following closely and quietly behind Ginnie. Well, well, well, looks like it's time for me to investigate. Quietly, I got up and trailed behind the duo, making sure to keep my presence unknown. We exited the cafeteria and started walking down the hallway. I watched as they turned a corner, and then I walked right into Bailey. As soon as our bodies collided, at least twenty papers slipped out of her hands and scattered over the floor. "Geez, sorry!" I apologized, and quickly moved to scoop up the papers.

She looked frazzled as she joined me on the floor, blushing every time we made eye contact. I smiled. I handed her my stack once I grabbed them all. "Thanks," she squeaked.

It's funny to see that she's been getting so close with Ginnie and Jessica who are both so outgoing, when she's so shy. But... At least she's better than Paige. "Anytime," I smirked at her without thinking, and watched as she grew even more uncomfortable.

"What are you doing out here with all these papers anyway?" I asked.

"Oh, uh, they're for a project I'm doing with Jessica."

At the mention of Jessica's name I felt my eyes widen and I started awkwardly coughing. Bailey giggled and raised her eyebrows. "There's... Uh... Something in my throat," I informed her and slapped my chest for emphasis.

She nodded. "Sounds like a fun project," I concluded.

She laughed. "What?" I questioned.

"The only thing you know about this project is that I'm working with Jessica, and that it requires a lot of paper!"

Oh. "Well, what's it about?"

"Well, we got to choose a theme and Jessica chose flowers and had me print pictures of some of her favorites," she explained.

"Her favorites? Like what?" I interrogated.

She laughed. "Seriously?"

"Seriously! What are they?" I whined.

She laughed again (ugh) and started walking away. "Oh, c'mon!" I called after her.

She turned around. "Violets!" She called.

"What about them?" I asked.

"Violets, they're her favorite flower."
