Chapter Forty Six; Tanner & Me

Bailey Martin

Well, that was awkward. Oh, Oliver. I got back to the cafeteria and sat down again next to Jessica. We started sorting through the photos and information on flowers, while Jessica talked on and on about her vision for the project. Jessica and I make a good team for projects, she's very creative and I just kinda help her and do what she tells me to do. It works for me, and it works for her. I'm super happy I was able to become friends with Jessica and Ginnie- they are too sweet! They're kinda like the big sisters I never had. We've been getting super duper close over the past week and it rocks. I still can't believe wha happened with Paige, though. She going through some sort of popularity crisis or something. I feel like I'm kinda replacing her, but I don't mind. I would feel bad but she has new friends now and she is really mean. I looked over at Tanner's table and signed inwardly. Then I noticed he was sitting all alone. "Hey Jess, Tanner's sitting all alone over there," I pointed to him.

She smiled at me. "You should go sit with him," she nudged me.

"Yeah? Would you mind if I did?" I asked.

"Nah, you guys are too cute for me to be mad," she informed me.

I don't see why we don't just sit at the same table as Tyler, Tanner and Oliver. I mean, it's not like we're not all friends..I think. I slowly made my way to where Tanner was sitting. I sat down next to him. "Hey," I chirped happily, maybe a little too happily.

"Hey," he responded and flashed me a smiled.

Swoon.

"What's up?" I asked, popping the 'p' sound.

"Nothing much. Tyler and Oliver both disappeared... A little suspicious if you ask me."

"Yeah, so did Ginnie. I wonder what those guys are up to..."

He smiled at me again. I had to remind myself not to jump on him.

Deep breaths, Bailey. You can do this.

"You know, you're cute when you smile," I poked his dimple.

"Look whose talking," he returned the gesture.

I giggled and then looked down at my hands. "Do you know what we have next?" I asked.

He tilted my chin up with his index finger. "What was that?" He asked.

"Oh, I asked if you knew what class we had next," I blushed.

"Oh, well we have English with Ms. Bates."

"Fun," I replied sarcastically.

He playfully rolled his eyes. "Ya know, we make a pretty cute couple," I remarked thougtfully.

"Damn straight," he agreed.

"We should do something together," he spoke, but it sounded like he was just talking to himself.

"Whaddya mean?" I asked, curiosity taking its toll on my mind.

"Like a date. Do people ever go on dates anymore?" He asked.

"Of course!" I replied.

I never actually understood the meaning of the word giddy until now, but hearing Tanner say that we should go on a date makes me feel just that. Giddy.

"It would be awesome. There's a carnival coming to town a couple blocks away from my house. We should check it out sometime," he said.

"Perfect!" I all but squealed.
