Chapter Fourty Eight; How Can Anybody Be Happy On A Wednesday?

Ms. Bates

Ugh, I really don't want to leave the teachers' lounge. We have coffee in here! And peace and quiet. And air conditioning. But, the clock reads 1:30, so it's my queue to leave and go teach some little weirdos. English is becoming stranger and stranger these days, all my students taking peeks at eachother, giggling, blushing. Must be some serious "crushing" going on.

Reluctantly, I pushed myself out of the chair I was sitting in and start strolling down the hall, occasionally glaring at different students for good measure. When I made it to my classroom, I was completely thrilled. It was empty.

I sat down at my desk and sigh a happy sigh, thankful that these little brats are late. Of course, I'm still gonna mark them tardy.

Just then, Oliver pushed open the door and slowly walked to his chair. He sat down and smiled at me. I looked away. Arrogant little bastard.

We sit there like that for exactly 26 seconds (yes, I counted) until I heard loud chuckles and giggles coming from the hallway. Oh, joy. More lovely students.

The door bursts open and Tyler and Ginnie come in, holding hands and smiling goofily at eachother.

Wow, so I guess they ended up together after all. I cleared my throat and immediately they unlocked their hands and sat down.

I love how scared students are of me. Grumpy old Ms. Bates, meanest gal around. Better hide your children, cause' I'm coming for them.

That's how people see me, anyways.

Only seconds later, Bailey and Tanner walked in chatting. They stopped to smile at me and then continued.

How can anybody be happy on a Wednesday?

I continued tidying up my desk when Michelle and Monique came in. Ah, I hate those girls. I mean, they're easy students, but they're super annoying. They're considered dorks by the kids, and I can understand why. But don't tell anyone I said that. Then Jessica came in, followed by Aubrey, Daniel, Paige, Avery, Morgan, Annie, Marcus, Rufus, Scott, Matthew, Sonia, and Charlie.

"Alright, class!" I called, getting everyone's attention, "I hate to...how would you guys say it....harsh your mellow or whatever but I have a class to begin and students to inspire," I rolled my eyes.

They erupted I laughter. Like I said earlier, how can anybody be happy on Wednesday? I cleared my throat and continued, "Today I'll be switching your seats around," I glanced around the room, then got an idea.

"Tyler, Ginnie, go sit together where Morgan and Aubrey were sitting," I commanded.

All the students looked around and giggled. Well, that confirms my previous suspicions. They quietly shuffled over to their new seats. "Um, Paige.... You go sit next to Oliver where Daniel and Michelle were sitting, Jessica you can sit with Bailey. Tanner, sit with Sonia. Matthew and Charlie. Rufus and Scott. Annie and Marcus. Michelle and Monique. Alright, now everyone get to your seats!" I clapped my hands.
