Chapter Ten; Teacher Life

Ms. Bates

Surprisingly, the kids were being really good tonight. They were all doing their own thing, and the rest of the teachers and I were sitting in the corner, drinking coffee by the heater. There was a big T.V. screen with karaoke words on it and a disco ball. It was kind of lame but I'm sure the kids were loving it. Kids love anything, right? I watched as Ms. O'Leary got up and said "Thank you Emily and Sonia. You girls both have amazing voices."

The two girls giggled and ran off to the corner. Then, Ms. O'Leary continued, "Now, singing 'That's What Makes You Beautiful' by One Direction, is Tyler, Tanner, and Oliver."

Ugh God, this is going to be painful. I laughed when they started. They took the microphones and sang along surprisingly well. They finished. Then Tanner and Oliver got off stage, but Tyler stayed there. He hesitated for a moment, then said "That was for you Ginnie."

Everybody was silent. I watched as Ginnie's face turned red and Tyler looked around awkwardly. Finally, the principal, Mrs. Mervin, said "Er, Tyler, would you mind talking to me outside?"

Tyler flashed a bright smile at everyone, and put the microphone back to his lips. He said "Thank you, everybody," and dropped the microphone, linked arms with Mrs. Mervin, and tugged her out of the room.

The whole crowd got up and laughed. I wanted to get up there, to stop the laughing, to tell them all to shut up, but I stayed seated and pursed my lips. So, Tyler and Ginnie. I never thought they would end up a couple. I love Ginnie, but Tyler, he's a total clown. As they do say though, opposites attract. I wonder how kids will secretly refer to them. Tinnie? I think Gyler sounds better.
