Chapter 6

The School day soon ended. Ashley was standing by Bella's truck with earphones waiting for her sister to finish talking to Jessica.

Ashley hated Jessica, she thought the girl was a nothing more than an attention seeking bitch but she kept quiet.

Then her eyes went across the car park. She stopped Emmett staring at her. He had a small smirk on her face making her roll her eyes.

There was a loud screech making Emmett look away. Ashley being curious looked to see a Van heading straight for her.

Her eyes went wide. She was going to die. She was going to die while at school. They always say going school doesn't kill her, they were wrong, at least in this case.

She closed her eyes waiting for the impact but instead she pushed gently to the ground confusing her.

She opened her eyes not feeling any pain. She looked to see she was staring into the eyes of Emmett who was worried.

Then Emmett stopped the Van from hitting her. There was a dent in the Van, while both Emmett and Ashley were fine.

People were calling Ashley's name while Emmett just disappeared. "Ashley are okay" Bella said as she arrived next to her sister.

"I'm fine" Ashley said. She was still in shock with what Emmett managed to do. How was he that strong it didn't make any sense.

"Are you okay?" Mike asked. "What happened?" Eric asked. "Did anyone get hurt?" someone else asked. "Did anyone see what happened" Mike asked.

Bella looked at the Cullen's across the parking lot and they all looked away from Bella's gaze, besides Rosalie who glared at the girl.

She saw Emmett leave Ashley and walk off. He went unnoticed by everyone else but Bella knew there was something more.

Ashley was rushed to hospital even after she insisted she was fine. Bella stayed by her side the whole journey.

When they arrived at the hospital Ashley is took to a bed. She insisted again that she was fine but no one listened.

Tyler was in the bed next to Ashley, his head bleeding. "I'm sorry Ash" Tyler said. "It's fine" Ashley replied.

Charlie burst in the room. "Ash are you alright" Charlie asked. "I'm fine dad, calm down" Ashley said.

"I'm so sorry Ash, I tried to stop" Tyler said. "It's okay Tyler" Ashley told him. "It sure as hell is not okay" Charlie snapped.

"Dad it's not his fault-" Ashley was cut off. "We nearly lost you" Charlie said. "You can't get rid of me that easy" Ashley said with a smile.

Charlie turned to Tyler. "You can kiss your license goodbye" he said. "I heard the Chief's daughter was here" A man said.

Ashley and Bella looked up to see a man with blonde hair and gold eyes, just like the rest of the Cullens. He must be one of them.

"Good Dr Cullen" Charlie said thankful that the best doctr at the hospital was tending to his daughter.

"I've got this one Jackie" Dr Cullen said and the other doctor hands over the information before leaving.

"All your X-rays have come back clean" Dr Cullen said. "She would have been a lot worse if it wasn't for Emmett" Bella said.

Ashley looked at her confused how did she know. "Emmett your boy" Charlie said to Dr Cullen who pretended not to pay attention.

"Yeah he pushed me out of the way. If it wasn't for him I could have died" Ashley said noticing Dr Cullen's odd behaviour.

"Well you're very lucky then" he said as he examined her eyes. He shinned the light in her eye a little longer than he should having giving her a headache.

"Excellent. You're fine. You may suffer some trauma, headaches, but that's about it. Excuse me" he said before leaving.

"I have to do some paper work. I'll be back in a little while" Charlie said. "We'll meet you outside" Bella said.

Charlie went one way while Ashley and Bella went the other. They heard talking and it gained their attention.

They looked to see Rosalie standing in front of Emmett looking annoyed, though Emmett was annoyed too. Dr Cullen was watching them,

"This isn't just about you. It's about all of us" Rosalie snapped. Dr Cullen noticed the two girls. "Let's take this in my office" he said as he and Rosalie left.

Ashley went over to Emmett. "I need to talk to you" she said. "You are talking" he replied. "How did you get over to me so quickly" she asked.

"I was standing right next to you" he lied. "Anyone ever tell you you're a terrible liar. You were next to your car across the lot" she said.

He stopped closer to her trying to intimidate her but it didn't work. "No I wasn't" he lied. "Yes you was" she said as she stopped closer.

Emmett could smell her scent and it was driving him wild, especially since they were standing so close to each other.

"You're confused. You hit your head" he said. "I know what I saw" she said. "And what was that" he asked folding his arms.

"You stopped the van. You push it away" she said making him chuckle. "Do you know how crazy you sound" he asked.

"I would believe that, if you weren't the worst liar I've ever met" Ashley said. "No one will believe you" he said. "I wasn't going to tell anyone" she told him.

They were even closer than before almost in kissing distance. Emmett noticed and he wanted to kiss her or drain her of her blood, either one he didn't mind.

"Can't you just thank me and get it over" he said. "Thank you" she said sarcastically making him feel even more attracted to her.

He never met a girl, human, who would stand their ground with him. The only vampire girl who did was Rosalie, though even then she gave up most of the time.

"You're not going to let it go are you" he asked. "No I'm not" she replied. "Then I hope you enjoy disappointment" he said.

He started walking away. "Why did you even bother" Ashley asked, almost hurt. "I don't know" he replied before he was out of reach.

That night Ashley had a dream about Emmett. He was saving her from falling off a cliff. It was a weird dream, it almost felt real to her, but of course it wasn't.
