Miraxus
Mira groaned, flopping onto the bed. Her stomach coiled underneath her fingertips. She'd covered herself in one of Laxus' large jackets to help her cold, but it didn't seem to be working. Now, she'd piled a mountain of fluffy pillows she'd gathered, and buried herself underneath them.
In desperation to get away from the sick feeling in her stomach, she forced herself to close her eyes and fall into a deep slumber.
When Mira woke, she was unsure whether the sleep had helped her at all. Her eyes kept flicking to her phone, wondering whether she should call Laxus to keep her company, or just leave him be. After all, they'd only been engaged and she didn't want to be an annoyance.
Deciding there was nothing to do anyway, and after deep contemplation, she turned on to Candy Crush, which seemed to be the only thing that got her through her horrendous cold. She'd tried everything - even what she hated most; onions. Sniffing, she slid her hands down the phone screen to match four red sweets in a row. Usually she'd scream or yell when she finished a level, but today she was not in the mood. Especially when she looked to her right and caught sight of a castle of tissues.
Her ringtone escaped from her phone in a wail. Grudgingly, she held it to her ear, not really bothering to read the contact. "Hello." She said, half-sniffing.
"Mira, why does your voice sound like a dying cat?" Drawled Laxus' voice, which caused Mira to instantly tighten her shoulders. Laxus was not supposed to know about her cold, especially when things were so busy for their wedding.
"No- no it does not!" Mira tried to keep her sniffs to a minimum and pulled off a high-pitched girlish sound.
There was a pause on the end of the line. "Fine then. Anyways, I was just checking up on you. I've got to go now. Bye."
Mira had never felt so alone. She'd been so tempted to blurt out everything; to tell him she needed him at home - but of course she couldn't do that. Their wedding was such a big day for both of them, and she didn't want to ruin it. "Okay," she mumbled, feigning happiness. "Bye."
Laxus struggled to get out everything he had in the wallet, jam everything into shopping bags, them rush back to Mira. He knew she was lying. After casting a pained smile to the shop keeper, and then buying more medicine, the first thing he did when he got back was to call Mira's name frantically.
Except there was no response. He had half expected her to bound down the steps and fling her long arms around his neck like she did everyday. "Mira!" His tone was getting more desperate.
He almost ripped out the carpet with all the friction he was producing with his feet. And he gave a sigh of relief when he saw a whole bed full of pillows, soft toys and tissues. At the end were Mira's toes, poking out slightly due to her long legs. "Oh there you are," he grunted, ripping off all the layers.
Mira's face was a pale white. The blush that she usually had was not visible; nor were her lush red lips. Mira sniffled, rubbing her eyes as she sat up. And blinked a few times. "Laxus! Why are you here! I thought you were meant to go shopping for our wedding-!"
Laxus wanted to laugh at her panic-stricken face. So what if their wedding was next week? Mira took his first priority. He jumbled through his bag to reach for a medicine and a spoon that came with it. "Open wide," he said, watching Mira's feverish blue eyes widen.
"I'm not a baby," she pouted.
Laxus raised an eyebrow. "I know you're not. I'm just practising for the child we're going to have."
Just as Mira was going to interrupt, he jammed the spoon straight into her mouth. She swallowed, her face twisting as her tongue found the taste incredibly bitter. "You know what would get the taste off my mouth?" Mira whispered, leaning closer towards his face.
Laxus edged backwards slightly, but Mira had already found the momentum - and her lips met with his. It was full of heat and longing - but unlike the usual taste of Mira, it was mixed with the bitterness of the medicine. Mira grinned when she pulled apart, her eyes full of mischief as she studied Laxus' face.
Then he started coughing. At first, Mira suspected it was just the disgusting taste of the medicine, but when he started sneezing and grappling for the tissue box, she knew her germs had spread. Luckily for her, she didn't feel unwell anymore.
Mira reached for his forehead which was burning up. Alas, this was going to be a long week.
