Decisions
Cassandra
"You don't have to go if you don't want to." Salvatore said again, trying to change
my mind. I turned around and put my hand on his cheek. He immediately leaned into
my touch. I smiled.
"Salvatore, I'll be fine. And besides, being the sister of the bride it's kinda my duty
to be there" I said tenderly, watching as he slowly lost the battle with himself.
Yesterday night I received a call from Martina, completely out of the blue, reminding
me that only two days are left for Marcie's wedding. She practically ordered me to
be there by today, with my things for the next two days since travelling back and
forth would be silly. Ya right, silly my foot! I knew it was her way of flaunting the
fact that her daughter is better than me. I would really love to see their expressions
when I tell them about Salvatore and me. I was bought out of my rearview by
Salvatore's defeated sigh.
"Fine." He said sulkily, kissing the inside of my palm. I chuckled at his antics.
"Don't be such a baby, you'll be seeing me after two days." I smiled at him, but he
continued to sulk.
"No, I want you here, with me." he said adamantly.
"You know, a lot of husbands would kill to have their wives on a vacation." I
teased him.
"Well, they don't have you." He smirked. I turned red but willed myself.
"Nice shot, but I'm still going." I almost laughed when his face morphed into his
earlier sulky expression. Suddenly, he smiled coyly. I narrowed my eyes at him.
"What are you going to do now?" I sighed, knowing there's no way I'm getting out of
this one.
"Nothing." He said innocently.
"Salvatore." I said, with a warning in my voice.
"Just some precautionary measures." He murmured as he scrolled his phone. I
blew out a frustrated breath. He looked up at me. "Don't worry, it's nothing drastic.
I promise." He said reassuringly. I shook my head at his over-protectiveness and left
him to his scheming.
"I'll get it." Salvatore announced as the bell rang. I continued packing for my little
trip.
"Lookie here." I heard Naina say from behind me. I whirled around and almost
lost my balance. Naina griped my shoulders to steady me. I shook her hand off,
shaking my head.
"I'm fine." I said in a resolute voice. Naina looked at me skeptically but didn't say
anything otherwise. It was only when she dropped her bag with a thud did I notice
it. "Whoa, your packed!" I said, looking at the humongous bag at her feet. "What's
the occasion?" I asked as I turned towards my own packing.
"A wedding." She said nonchalantly. I turned to her in surprise. She simply looked
back at me, unfazed. I shook my head and made a bee-line for Salvatore, ready to
give him a piece of my mind.
"Salvatore!" I called, knowing he would be here in a flash. Just like I expected, he
appeared out of thin air, wearing the usual worried expression.
"What's wrong?" he asked as he assessed me from head to toe.
"Seriously!" I almost shrieked. Yeah, pregnancy does that to you. He flinched
away, covering his ears to soften the blow. "Was that really necessary?" I asked
again, but this time with a lower pitch. He lowered his hands.
"It's either her or me." He said with finality.
"I can take care of myself!" I said in expiration. His face softened.
"I know, tesoro. It's for my peace of mind." He said gently as he cupped my face,
almost making me forget my point. "Please Cassandra, for me?" he asked gently. I
melted.
"Fine." I sighed. He gave me a gentle kiss, leaving me wanting for more.
"Thanks." He smiled his usual adorable smile. I smiled back, hopelessly. Someone
cleared their throat.
"Sorry to burst your little bubble, but we have to be somewhere. Right Cassy?"
Naina asked, thoroughly amused, raising her eyebrow at me.
"Right." I said, blushing like crazy.
"Dinner is in the fridge, and all your files are on the top shelf." I repeated as I
picked up my purse, almost ready to go. "Oh, and your keys are on the coffee
table......." But trailed off as a pair of arms encircled my waist, drawing me back to a
very masculine chest. He softly chuckled in my ear, raising goosebumps on my bare
shoulder.
"You kept your pills?" he asked gently.
"First thing." I replied, reveling the feel of him against me. I sneaked a look at the
watch and grimaced. "It's getting late. I should go." I murmured, but made no move
to get out of his arms. Feeling content, I leaned back onto him.
"Stay." He whispered as he placed butterfly kisses on my shoulder.
"Can't." I said, breathlessly. "Are we doing the right thing?" I asked thoughtfully
after a minute's silence.
"We could tell them now." He suggested, his chin resting on my shoulder.
"No, I mean, I want to but it's Marcie's wedding. It won't be fair to her." I looked
at him only to find him looking back at me.
"So, at the reception?" he asked for confirmation.
"At the reception." I nodded.
It's only two days, what could go wrong? I thought, unaware of the challenges
waiting ahead for me.
