KATIE'S POV
"Zeke, say the word and I will build a shrine to you." Sawyer says as he takes the first pizza box from his brother. Sawyer sets the pizza box down in front of him on the basement floor.
"I have the large thick-crust pizza with pepperoni, sliced sausage, jalapeños, and bacon. What do I get?" I joke approaching with the second pizza box.
Sawyer thinks for a moment, he looks at me with a serious expression. "Say the word and I will invade Russia." He says. After a brief second of silence, Zeke, Sawyer, and I start laughing.
"Why Russia?" Zeke asks Sawyer.
Sawyer shrugs his shoulders, "Why not Russia."
I open up the first box, a large thick-crust four-meat pizza with extra cheese, "What if I want you to invade England?" I ask.
Sawyer takes out a slice of pizza from the second box. "You'll have to bring me two more pizzas." He answers. Zeke raises a slice of pizza in agreement with Sawyer.
The three of us stop conversing for a while to eat. Zeke turns on the television to supply us with entertainment. He keeps the volume a bit low to ensure he can hear sounds from upstairs, since the three of us are the only ones in the house. Sawyer's parents are out attending a orchestra-recital downtown, Ella, as usual, is not home, Logan is at his girlfriend's, and Parker is out with friends. Three teenagers home alone on a Friday night sounds like part of a horror-movie's plot. Therefore, the three of us all agreed that in the case of an intruder breaking in, Sawyer will go up. We all agreed that Sawyer would be better at distracting someone.
A commercial comes on the television for a laundry detergent that is supposedly the best at getting stains out of fabric.
"Did you know that Sawyer used to sh*t his pants when he was in third grade?" Zeke says after finishing his third pizza-slice. I have to cover my mouth to avoid spraying the chewed pieces of pizza in my mouth. I quickly grab my drink and swallow the food in my mouth. I let out a laugh.
"Why would you mention that?" Sawyer asks shooting Zeke a glare.
"The laundry detergent commercial made me think of all times Mom had to spray stain-remover on your pants." Zeke answers. He looks over at me and makes a small explosion sound. I laugh some more and look over at Sawyer whose face has gone completely bright red. Even his ears have turned red.
"Aww, Sawyer." I say as calm my laughter down a bit. I lean over and give him a kiss on the cheek. "Everyone poops their pants." I say. I'm unable to hold back a little laugh when he shoots me a look in response. We hold each other's gaze for a moment before we both begin to laugh.
Sawyer starts to move to kiss me, but he abruptly stops. He pulls back and gives me a quick peek on the cheek. I swallow down my slight disappointment and give Sawyer a smile.
~~~~~~~~
After the three of us had eaten our fill of pizza, we went upstairs. Zeke went into his bedroom to have a private talk with Evan on the phone. Sawyer and I started watching a movie on the big television in the living room. Sitting on the floor, I was hit with a sense of nostalgia. I briefly reflected upon all that has occurred in the years since I attended Sawyer's family's New Year's party.
Sawyer is laying down near where I'm sitting on the floor, he is playing a game on his phone. I take out my phone and send a message. A couple seconds later, I hear Sawyer's text-tone go off. I look over at my shoulder as he reads the text I sent him. He lets out a small laugh and lays his phone down on his chest. "Alright, fair point." He says with a smile. He pats the space on the floor right next to him.
