Alex's P.O.V
"And then you just press on the gas pedal, but not too much, we don't want to go flying." John says to me. I slowly push my foot on the gas pedal and sure enough, the car moves forward. I move the steering wheel to stay aligned and I smile, laughing.
"I'm driving. I'm really doing it!" I look over to John who has a smile on his face. He takes a picture of me and I just smile.
"Keep your eyes on the road honey." I nod my head, putting my attention back on the road.
"Could I drive back to New York?"
"Oh honey, I don't think you're equipped for that yet." I pout, a little sad, but it's true.
"Yeah, okay." I stop at a red light abruptly and John jolts forward his seat, laughing.
"Oh my gosh, Hamilton. You slow down before you stop." I show my teeth.
"Sorry, sorry."
"It's okay. You're doing good so far, I'm proud of you. You can park in a parking lot, you can back out of a driveway. The big test is parallel parking and then all of these laws and signs and whatnot, but I'm proud at what you've got right now."
"Thank you, I'm proud of me too."
"Alright, let's switch places. Let's drive back to New York."
John's P.O.V
Alexander pulls over and we switch seats. Once I sit, I adjust the seat so it's farther back and I start the long drive back to New York.
"Boston is so different from where your family lives. It was...louder. And more people."
"Yup. It's quiet uptown where we live. Aren't much folks, everyone knows each other, one of the main reasons I decided to go to college in another state."
"Cause there's more people?"
"It's more...alive. Everything there is making it stay alive, which is why I want to move to New York after college, which I'm probably gonna do."
"I chose New York for the same reasons, well some of the same reasons, especially the people part."
"But you didn't want to talk to anyone when you first came here."
"I know, but just being around people made it easier somehow. And you made it easier."
I smile and I feel my phone vibrate in my back pocket.
"Could you get that please?" Alexander pulls out my phone from my pocket, but he makes sure he grabs my ass before his hand leaves my pocket.
"It's Eliza wanting to FaceTime."
"Pick it up, put it on the stand." Alexander picks it up and places it on the GPS stand.
"Hi!" We both say. Eliza waves and I see Peggy and Angelica poking from the sides.
"You guys come back today, right?" We nod our heads and Peggy claps.
"Thank fucking goodness. We miss you!" Peggy says. I laugh.
"We miss y'all too. But don't worry, we'll be there in a mere 4 hours." Alex says. I see Angelica roll her eyes.
"How's your family?" Peggy asks me.
"They're good. They're aging well. They like Alexander, which is good for when we get married in the future." The sisters aww and I see Alexander turning a little red.
"What?" I ask.
"You said when and not if."
"Hey, I'm faithful."
We talk with the sisters for a little longer until they hang up the call. The car is silent for a while until Alexander speaks up.
"Do you really want to marry me?"
"Of course I do. Do we need to have the future talk?"
"Yes please."
"Wait, right now?"
"Yes."
"Well then. What do you want to talk about?"
"You wanna stay in New York?" He asks me. I nod my head.
"Okay. To be honest, I'll go wherever you go. It's not like I have anywhere to go." I glance at him quickly and I reach over and grab his hand.
"Kids?"
"3."
"You want three kids?" I say, laughing.
"Maybe 4. I don't know. It all depends, doesn't it?"
"That's true. Genders?"
"Doesn't matter, just want them."
"We're still pretty young to be talking about this." I say. Alexander is quiet for a while.
"I know, but it's good to talk about." He says. I look over and I watch a smile grow on his face.
"I love you." He says.
"And I love you."
