John's P.O.V

Alex and I are watching a movie when a certain thought comes to my mind.

"Baby, how come you never told me when your birthday is?" I say. He doesn't answer for a while and then he sighs heavily. He raises his head from my lap and looks at me.

"Because I don't know when it is."

"What? What are you talking about?"

"My 'legal' birthday is March 31st, but my mother told me that that isn't my actual birthday."

"So, she must have told you your actual birthday, right?"

"No, she never did. We barely even celebrated my legal birthday cause we just never had the resources." He looks down at his hands.

"Aw, baby."

"Don't." I sigh. I put my hand under his chin and I pull his face back up to look at me. I place a kiss on his lips.

"Well, I'm gonna figure out your actual birthday."

"Pfft, good luck. If I don't know it, you're not gonna know it."

"Don't question my skills." He laughs and goes back to my lap.

After Alexander falls asleep, which was pretty early, I decide to go on a little trip down to the administrations office. I open the door, which isn't locked. I walk right in and no alarm goes off. Well, this school certainly hasn't heard a thing about locking doors or like...security cameras. I go to the row of cabinets, opening all of them until I find Hamilton, Alexander. I pull out his file and I scan some of the things that are on it until I find something that can help me.

"Did his dad write this?" I say out loud to myself. I flip over a handwritten letter which is signed at the bottom by 'James A. Hamilton', which is Alexander's father's name.

"His actual birthday is January 11th. I don't know what use that's gonna be in here, but just to have it."

January 11th? That's tomorrow.

I text everyone in the group chat, excluding Alex.

ThePlaceToBe: Alexanders birthday is tomorrow guys!

AndPeggy: Wait, what?

SomeMenSayThatImIntense: shouldn't you have been telling us this like...two days ago.

HercPants: are we gonna do something?

ThePlaceToBe: that's why I'm texting you guys

LookAroundEliza: well, what's your plan?

FavoriteFrenchmen: I'm excited and you haven't even told me the plan.

Alex's P.O.V

I wake up to whispering and shushing. I turn around in the bed and when I open my eyes, I see all my friends standing behind John holding a cake that says 'Happy Birthday!'

"Happy Birthday!" They all say. My eyes widen at the shock of just...everything.

"Wow, just...wow. Thanks, guys." I say.

"Let's eat some cake!" Peggy yells.

After all our friends leave, Alexander sits on the bed, looking at the cake on his plate.

"What's wrong?" I say, sitting next to him.

"Hmm? Oh, nothing." I scoff and I take the plate from underneath him and I place it on the desk.

"I know there's something wrong. I saw the look on your face when you saw everyone and the cake." Alexander sighs and falls on the bed. I fall after him and he rests his head on my chest.

"I knew my birthday all along, baby." I look down at him but he doesn't look at me.

"What?"

"I knew all along. I just didn't want to tell you because I knew you would make a big deal about it, and I appreciate it and all but...I just...didn't want it to be a big deal."

"Why not?"

"It just...like I told you earlier. We barely had the resources to celebrate birthdays and when we did, it wasn't really fun. It was more...sad."

"Why didn't you tell me you knew?"

"Cause I knew you would have made a big deal of it anyway."

"You could have said, 'hey don't make a big deal' and I would have listened."

"I know, I'm sorry."

"No, I'm sorry. I should have seen that you were uncomfortable when I brought up the conversation."

"It's just, god I'm so depressing."

"No, you're not. It's understandable. I promise, next time, I won't celebrate your birthday."

"Oh my gosh, no. It's just...I don't know. This was a real celebration. I didn't know how to act, I didn't know what to do, to be honest, I thought it was so sweet. It was so genuine and real and I knew you did it from your heart. This is one of the reasons why I love you, it's just...it was unexpected and it was stressful and I'm sorry but I really did love it. Thank you."

"You're welcome, baby. I will do anything for you, but please let me know if something is making you uncomfortable. Just tell me your feelings." He looks up at me and smiles.

"Okay." I place a kiss on his lips and he smiles into the kiss.

"I love you." He says.

"I love you."
