"Aurora, we are almost there," my mother, Ms. Stancy exclaimed cheerfully."Great," I mumbled, feeling annoyed. I was supposed to spend the summer in New York City with my best friends. Instead, my mom had forced me to come along with her to the Czech Republic, because that was where her fiance's family lived.
"In two weeks I will be married," my mom squealed.
"That's great," I repeated, looking out of the car window. It was pouring, and the sky was pitch black. There wasn't a house or street light in sight. Were we really going the right way? It looked like there wasn't anything except for trees for miles.
Suddenly, the car took a sharp turn, and I gasped. In front of us was a large mansion that looked more like a castle. It was painted dove white with a gray rooftop, and the paint was chipped, giving it a dirty look. The roof was gothically styled, and vines were creeping into the dark windows.
"This is where I'm going to drop you off," my mom said.
"Drop me off?" I cried, 'You aren't coming with me?!"
"I'm sorry, but my fiance is at his parents' house right now which is where I'm going to meet him. His kids are here though, so they will help you."
"Your fiance has kids?" I asked, "And why can't I come with you to meet your fiance? Who is he?"
"I'm sorry, but I'll explain everything later," mom said, throwing the suitcase at me, and then driving away, leaving me alone in the rain. She could have at least left me an umbrella. I ran towards the large mansion before I would get drenched. My clothes were already soaked, and my favorite pair of shoes were muddy. Why did I feel like my mom had abandoned me? I rang the doorbell again and again, and after about 20 minutes, still no one answered.
Sweat poured down my face. Oh my god, what if no one was here? Had I really been abandoned? I turned the doorknob, and to my fortune, the door opened. I know it is rude to just walk into a house, but it was ok if I was going to live here, right?
The house was dark, and it smelled like pumpkin spice. There was a dusty painting of a Greek goddess in front of me, and spiders were crawling on the floor. Ew, did anyone really live here?
"Hello?!" I yelled, "Does anyone live here?!"
No reply. Maybe no one was home right now. I was going to have to call my mom. But I had a chilling feeling that she wasn't going to come back for a while.
I walked into another room that seemed to be some sort of a library. There was a velvet couch with a boy around my age sleeping on it. He had dark black hair that fell below his ears, and his skin looked one of a porcelain doll. He was wearing a perfectly ironed white shirt and dark wash jeans. So there was someone in this house!
"Hey!" I yelled, running towards him. I accidentally touched his hand, and it felt strangely cold. Too cold to be...alive.
Fear seized my body. I put my ear on his chest, and there was no pulse! I screamed loudly, jumping backwards.
"What's going on?" he asked, sleepily.
I gasped. "You are alive?"
He gave me a perplexed look. "No shit, Sherlock," he said, looking annoyed, "What else would I be?"
"What's going on, Kaito?" another boy said, walking in the room, and four boys followed him.
"Nothing, Felix," Kaito said, "Except there is this random chick in our house!"
They all glared at me, and I stepped back.
"Wait, I can explain," I said.
"Wow, someone actually had the guts to break into our house," one of the four boys said, "That is unacceptable."
"And she already knows too much about us," Kaito added, "Get her!"
I screamed, running to the door. They all started to laugh, following me. I tried to open the door, but it wouldn't budge.
"We are going to have so much fun," the tallest one said.
"I'm sorry!" I cried, "I think I'm in the wrong house! My mom dropped me off saying that this is where her fiance's kids live. She must have gotten the address wrong or something!"
"Oh, so you are the girl who was supposed to move here," Felix said, adjusting his glasses.
"Huh?" I asked.
---
We were all sitting in the living room, in a bunch of chocolate brown sofas.
"Miss, you are really pretty," the youngest boy said, who was sitting right next to me.
"Bora, get away from her," Felix said, and all the six boys looked at me.
"So what is your name?" Bora asked.
"Aurora Stancy," I replied, "It's still weird how soon, we will all be step siblings."
"I'm Felix," Felix said, "I'm the smart one in the house, and the second oldest. Daniel is 19 and the oldest."
Felix pointed to Daniel who had green dyed hair and wore a knitted beanie. Daniel smirked at me.
"Then there is Vasile," Felix continued, pointed to a boy with a full on emo look. Vasile pointed at me, whispering, "Oh, you are so doing to die." which sent me chills.
"Then there is Kaito, who you have already met." Kaito scowled at me.
"And Nicholae," Felix said, looking at a quiet boy who was listening to music and closing his eyes. Nicholae didn't even look at me.
"And finally we have Bora who is the baby of the family."
"That's rude, I'm not a baby, I'm 12!" Bora cried.
"So why were you so cold?" I asked, looking at Kaito, "Are you sick or something?"
"Don't worry," Kaito said, giving me an evil smile, "I'm not sick."
Lightning flashed outside, making me jump. They all looked at me.
"We are vampires," Kaito said flatly, before the lights in the house went out.
