I woke up with the moonlight shining directly on me. For a second I was confused where I was, but then the memories of Ana betraying me, running from Kinsberg castle, and my confession flooded into my mind. A lot had happened, and I shivered as I imagined Ana lurking around, searching for me.
The bed was empty, and when I sat up, I saw Kaito sitting at a wooden table, looking intently at a macbook air.
"What are you doing?" I asked, rubbing my eyes. Kaito was dressed in a white button up shirt that was only a third buttoned so that you could see his chest, woolen pants, and a chain around his neck with an inverted pentagram on it.
"Trying to make escape plans incase we need it," Kaito replied. "The bath is great, by the way."
"Um, ok," I said, walking into the bathroom. I poured what was called "French Paradise Bubble Bath" into the swan shaped tub. I closed my eyes as I sank into the bath, feeling at peace.
Then, I changed( in the bathroom this time) into a black dress which went right above my knees. It had a rose on the top, and lace criss crossed in the center. It came with a matching choker, and I wore a lace headband to complete the look. This outfit wasn't my taste, but I couldn't choose what was in this rom. When I walked back in the room, Kaito let out a yawn.
"It took you long enough," he said.
I clenched my fist. "Why you-"
"Let's go downstairs, Rory," Kaito said, cutting me off. Rory? That was something only my close friends called me.
"Um, ok," I said. Kaito took out his hand, and I slowly grabbed it which received a small laugh from him. Together, we looked like fragile porcelain dolls.
"Are we a couple now?" I asked as we walked down the stairs.
"If that's what you want to call it," Kaito said, "But don't expect me to turn into the romantic type."
I was happy. Kaito was finally changing. I doubt he saw me as his prey now. At least, that is what I hope. We walked into a room where everyone was sitting on velvet sofas, sipping on cups of blood.
"You are late," Mr. Kinsberg said.
"Sorry," Kaito said, "but Rory here took forever."
"Rory?!" Ms. Stancy snapped.
"You both seem closer," Bora noted. "Did you guys do it last night?"
"Bora, you know I hate it when you ask me personal questions," Kaito said, sitting on a sofa. I purposely sat on his lap and turned to my mom, flashing her an evil grin. Vasile and Nicholae exchanged strange looks, and my mom looked like she wanted to explode with anger.
"Do you want some blood?" a maid asked Kaito, holding a tray of wine cups that were filled with dark liquid.
"No thanks," Kaito said, putting his arms around my waist. "I already had my fill of blood for the day."
"I can't stand this anymore!" Vasile cried, standing up, and everyone looked at him.
"Aurora, how can you be with him?" he asked. "He's a sadist! Are you that insecure or what?!"
"I'm not the insecure one in this relationship," I protested.
"Aurora," Ms.Stancy said. "This has gone too far. I will not allow you to date him. This relationship is over!"
Kaito laughed. "Well it's too late for that now, isn't it?" he said. "Didn't you tell her you weren't her mom anymore during the ball?"
Ms.Stancy stood up and slowly walked towards us with a strange look on her face. When she was right in front of us, she smoothed her lavender dress and asked, "Did you or did you not have sex?"
"What kind of question is that?" I asked with a fake laugh. Ms.Stancy forcefully pulled my hair and looked me directly in the eyes.
"This is serious," she said. "Did you or didn't you?"
"Get your wrinkly hands off of her," Kaito said, pulling her hands off my hair. "To answer your question, yes we did! Thanks to me she isn't a virgin anymore."
Kaito and I never had sex, but my mom deserved to think we did.
"That's right," I said, "Next time Kaito, please be more gentle."
"Sure thing, babe."
"I see," Ms. Stany said, stepping back. "I guess I can't marry Henry anymore."
"What?!" Mr.Kinsberg yelled.
"How can I?" Ms. Stancy cried. "They would turn into step siblings and then continue an illegal relationship! And you are only supporting it! I can't marry a man who supports that! Aurora, I guess we are going back to New York."
"What?" I asked, and I could feel Kaito's arms go limp around my waist.
"You heard me," Ms.Stancy said. "Now get up. This is what you wanted, right?"
"Sarah, you aren't thinking straight!" Mr. Kinsberg cried, running towards her. "Don't separate them now! Let them be together for a while longer. And please give me another chance!"
"Plus, all my stuff is still in the Kinsberg castle," I protested. "I can't leave it."
"Oh you are going to have to," Ms. Stancy said. "We are leaving now."
"No!" I blurted out. "You can, but i'm staying until summer ends. I refuse to be with you in that small apartment for the rest of my vacation."
"If you want to be killed by vampires then fine," Ms. Stancy said, "but I'm leaving."
"No, Sarah, wait!" Mr. Kinsberg yelled, running after her.
"Guys," Bora said, running into the room, "I left, because Vasile did, and I found him...him..."
"Oh my god," I said, running towards him, "He's what?"
"He's dead," Bora said.
