I woke up the next day with warm Czech sunlight brushing my face with its soft wings. I saw a folded piece of paper on the bedside table, and I picked it up. On it, it said: I will have a new phone for you by tomorrow- N. I smiled.
"You finally woke up," a voice said, and I jumped and turned around. Vasile was standing against the wall with an evil smile. He was wearing a gray hoodie, ripped jeans, and his hair was a darker black than it had been yesterday.
"Why do you keep sneaking up on me?" I asked, "Can you please just get out of here?"
"Not unless you let me drink some of your blood, babe," Vasile said.
"Don't call me babe," I retorted, rolling my eyes. Without thinking, I touched the dark red choker on my neck. Ever since Kaito had bit me, I had been wearing a choker so no one would find out what had happened, and so far, it was working.
"What is this?" Vasile asked, grabbing Nicholae's note from my hand, "Are you both dating now?"
"Ew, no way, we are going to be step siblings," I said.
"Our parents aren't even married yet, and I doubt they ever will," Vasile claimed with a scoff. What was that supposed to mean?
"Ditch Nicholae and be my girl," Vasile whispered in my ear, "I can make drinking blood a pleasant experience...you would end up begging for more."
"I don't like Nicholae!" I cried my face red, "And there is no way I would like a scum like you! Now out of my way, I'm going to take a shower!"
I stormed passed Vasile and into the bathroom. Fuck Vasile and his emo clothing. I hated all of them, except for Nicholae! I decided I needed to relax, so I filled the bathtub with water and a bath bomb. I closed my eyes when I sat in the bathtub, and I immediately heard scraping on the window. My eyes flew open, and I saw a bat hitting the window. I screamed, even though it was probably just a normal bat. Bats were my nightmare. I immediately got out, put on my clothes, and ran out of the room. I saw another bat on the ceiling and let out another scream.
"God, you are so loud," Kaito said, walking into the room, "I hate being awake during the day, and you are ruining my sleep schedule."
"I'm sorry, but there is a bat!"
Kaito rolled his eyes. "Our house has a bat problem," he explained.
"So, um, can you kill it?"
Kaito groaned. "Seriously?" he asked, "I need to go back to sleep."
"Please," I pleaded, "I don't want the bat to get away."
"Well," Kaito said, smiling evilly, "I'll only do it if you let me drink more of your blood."
"Are you kidding me?" I snapped as the bat flew to my bed.
"Your blood is the only thing about you that interests me," Kaito said, "The rest of you is dull and boring, and all you do is take up space in this house."
"I guess I'll get Vasile," I said, walking towards the door. Kaito grabbed my arm and pulled me to him.
"Let me go!" I cried, struggling to get free.
"Why, so you can just get someone else to drink your blood?"
"That's not what I was going to do-"
I was cut off when Kaito bit into my neck. This time he didn't drink that much, and I was relieved that I didn't feel faint this time. Kaito walked up to the bat and killed it in a blink of an eye.
"Just so we are clear, you aren't allowed to give anyone your blood but me," Kaito said, walking out of the room, "But that doesn't mean we are suddenly Bffs now."
*******
"I swear, all the food seems to appear out of thin air," I mumbled, during dinner.
"Aurora, you look pale," Felix said, adjusting his glasses, "Are you sick?"
"No, actually its-"
I looked at Kaito, who was glaring at me. I gulped. "Actually, it's from the lack of sunlight," I said( why did I lie?), "You guys should really let me go to town."
"Absolutely not," Felix said, "You are a target ever since you moved here. The villagers will kill you without hesitation or atleast shun you."
Were the villagers really like that?
"God, everything has been ruined ever since you moved here," Daniel siad, frowning at me.
"Hey, don't talk to my girl like that," Vasile said.
"Your girl?" Nichlae repeated.
"You jealous?" Vasile inquired.
"Ew, no," Nicholae stated.
"Aurora, he loves you!" Vasile cried.
"Can I be invited to the wedding?" Bora asked. Kaito stood up and pushed in his chair.
"Where are you going?" Felix questioned.
"You are all so loud and annoying," Kaito said, "I'm going to my room."
"What is your problem?" I asked, "You are the one who is always loud."
"Can you just shut up? I don't talk to humans," Kaito snapped.
"Well at least my breath doesn't stink from all the arrogance in my voice," I yelled, "I would rather breathe in the same air as a smoker than with you!"
"That doesn't change the fact that you are worthless," Kaito said with a scoff, and he left the dining room.
"Don't worry," Nicholae explained, "He's rude to everyone. There is no point trying to get close with him."
"Yeah, who needs Kaito when Nicholae loves you?" Vasile joked, and Nicholae punched him.
"You guys are lame, I'm going out," Daniel said, "Kaito is the only one who actually keeps things interesting here."
"Wow, everyone is leaving," Felix said, "Is the food really that bad?"
"It's terrible," I admitted.
