I gasped, looking at Kaito and then at the blood at the ground.

"Kaito, don't do it," I whispered. He jumped at me, and bit into my neck. I felt intense pain as the blood left my body. I felt myself become pale, and the world was spinning like crazy. I felt nauseated and felt the urge to throw up.

"Oh my god," Kaito said with a deep breath, "That was the best blood I have ever tasted."

"You are sick," I mumbled, the whole world spinning around, "You would hurt your brother and cause someone you barely know to die. Don't you care about Nicholae? You are supposed to be there for him!"

Kaito laughed. "You do know that I'm not going to hurt Nicholae, right? I only said that, because I knew it would drive you crazy."

"What?" I whispered, my knees wobbling.

"Did you really think I would actually lock up my brother?" Kaito asked with another laugh, "I was going to pretend I did as your punishment, but I've decided to change it. You are going to be the maid in this house for one week. Kind of like Cinderella."

"And what if I don't want to?" I challenged.

"Then you will die," Kaito threatened.

I sighed.

Daniel dropped a china plate to the floor, and it shattered into a million pieces.

"Oops," he said, flashing me an evil grin, "I guess you have to clean that now."

"You are going to pay," I hissed, grabbing a broom. It had been two days since I had turned into the "maid", and my mom still hadn't called. Did she not care about me anymore?

"I'll help you," Nicholae said, grabbing a dust pan.

"I don't think Kaito would like that," Daniel stated.

"I don't care," Nicholae snapped, "Aurora is going to be part of the family soon, and we should treat her with respect."

"Whatever," Daniel said, walking away.

"Thanks,"I mumbled, "You are the only one here who is actually nice to me."

"It's probably because you remind me of myself before I turned into a vampire," Nicholas said, closing his eyes.

"What happened?" I asked. How had they all turned into vampires? Was it like the novels and movies where they had to be bit or killed with vampire blood in their body?

"It was 200 years ago," Nicholae started, "I'm not actually 14, but it is easier to say, because that was my age when I died. I had been born in this town which wasn't much different back then. I was friends with all the villagers my age, and one summer they all died because of a plague that had come to the town. My family was lucky, because we lived far away in this house, but my mom had gone crazy. She was so scared that we would die from the plague that she put vampire blood in the tea we were drinking one morning and then she..."

Nicholae started to sob, and I put my hand on his shoulder.

"And then what happened?" I asked.

"She killed us," Nicholae sobbed, "And we woke up as vampires. And the first person we killed was our mom. Our dad had agreed on his own to turn into a vampire, and he was so mad that we killed his wife that he left to a different house."

"I'm sorry," I said, "That must have been hard."

"It was," Nicholae admitted, "But it was such a long time ago. I don't even remember being a human anymore."

I felt bad for Nicholae. He didn't deserve to live a life like this. We finished cleaning up the floor, and I asked the questions I had been waiting to.

"Do you guys make any money? Do you even go to school? Can you walk outside in the sunlight?"

"We can go in the sunlight, but only for a limited amount of time," Nicholae explained, "Which is why we usually sleep during the day. As for school, we don't attend it. And we don't need money either."

"I see," I responded. They didn't need any money? How did they buy anything?

Nicholae laughed. "Everyone hates us which is why we don't go to school. Plus, I don't need education, I'm 214. I'm basically an old man."

"A really old man," I teased.

We both walked to the living room where Bora was reading a torned up copy of Atlas Shrugged. I hadn't seen Bora much ever since I moved here. I wondered what he did in all his free time.

"We should escape," I whispered as we walked out of the living room, "We could go to New York City where I live. You would love it there."

"I can't," Nicholae said, looking sad.

"Why not? You are miserable here! No one is New York would even know the truth about you. You would get a fresh start!"

"I can't leave my family, even though I would love to," Nicholae said, "We promised to always stick together. I can't abandon them after 200 years."

"You deserve better though," I said

"I know I do," Nicholae said, "But I can't. But you can. Mark my words, you will definitely be in New York by the end of summer."
