I dialed my mom's number on the old fashioned home telephone, and no one picked up. I dialed the number again and still nothing happened. I wanted to scream. What was my mom doing? Why wasn't she picking up?
"I bet your mom doesn't care about you anymore," Vasile said, stepping out of the shadows.
"Shut up," I said, glaring at him. Vasile looked like the stereotypical vampire. He was wearing a dark shirt, and dark jeans. He had dark eyeliner under his eyes, and he wore three chains around his neck. I noticed a tattoo of an ouija board on his arm.
"Don't worry babe," Vasile said, "Stick with me, and I can show you all the fun you can have this summer."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I questioned, my cheeks turning slightly pink.
"Let me suck your blood," Vasile said.
"No thanks," I said, putting the telephone down.
"Why not?" Vasile asked, "You don't even know how it feels like."
"I'm not interested," I replied, "I'm only staying here until my mother comes back."
"I doubt she will ever come back," Vasile said, "That bitch doesn't seem to love you."
"Don't say stuff like that," I cried, "She's just busy right now!"
"Stop being in denial," Vasile said, grabbing my arm, "You and I both know she isn't."
"Let me go!" I yelled, trying to pull away.
"Not until you let me suck your blood," Vasile said, pulling me closer. His mouth went dangerously close to my throat, and I could feel his warm breath on my neck. I don't know why, but suddenly, I felt a strong urge. I wanted him to bite me.
"Let her go!" Kaito yelled, and Vasile quickly let me go. "You can't just harm any human that walks into this house."
"Whatever," Vasile said, walking away.
"Thank you," I told Kaito, "You really saved me."
"Don't be ridiculous," Kaito said with a smirk, "I only saved you, because I will be the first one to bite you."
He walked away, leaving me alone in the hallway. I sighed. I hated everyone in this house.
I walked to the backyard which was a rose bush garden. I covered my nose. It reeked. I saw Nicholae laying down in the ground, staring at the sky, listening to music.
"Hey," I said, sitting next to him, "You must be the only sane person in this house."
Nicholae didn't reply. He continued looking at the sky.
"Why do you continue living here?" I asked, "This house seems so boring."
"You couldn't possibly understand," Nicholae said, "You are just city trash."
"Excuse me?" I said, standing up, "At least I don't force people to stay in my house!"
I stormed back into the house and into the room which they had given me. The room was painted white with pink silk bed sheets and large paintings of rivers and cities. It was a bit too girly for my taste, but I didn't plan on living here forever. I heard knocking on my door, and I jumped. I opened the door and saw Nicholae standing on the other side.
"What do you want?" I snapped, feeling annoyed.
"Is it really true that you are being forced to live in this house?" Nicholae asked.
"Well, that's what Kaito told me," I replied.
"Wow, I never thought he would go that far," Nicholae said, "I just wanted to say I'm sorry for being so rude to you."
"Um ok," I said, surprised things had turned out like this.
"At least you only have to stay here until our parents get married."
"Um, yeah," I said, but I had a feeling I was going to be staying longer than that.
"So how did you and your brothers turn into vampires?" I asked.
"I would rather not talk about it right now," Nicholae said, "It is a rather unpleasant story."
"Is Kaito the leader of all of you?" I asked.
"I guess you could say that," Nicholae replied, "Even though Daniel is the oldest one, and Kaito is the fourth oldest, he still acts like the leader."
"Wow," I said. So Kaito was the one I had to watch out for!
