"Do you have everything?" Vasile asked when I stepped inside the car. I nodded.
"Did you say goodbye to Nicholae?"
"He's asleep."
"Wow, that's cold," Vasile said, and he started the car. He drove to the village, and I saw Ana walking to a store.
"Drop me off here," I commanded.
"Ok," Vasile said, stopping the car. I got out and ran towards Ana.
"Ana!" I yelled, "I was able to escape!"
"Aurora, thank god," she said, hugging me.
"Can I stay at your place tonight?" I asked, "I can't reach my mom."
"Ok," Ana responded. We walked to her house, and Ana took out a key and opened it. We walked inside, and to my horror, I saw Ana's mom lying on the floor, blood spilling out of her. Ana screamed, and I fell on my knees.
"Who could have done this?!" Ana cried, and all of a sudden, a figure stepped from the dark. He had green dyed hair, lip piercings, and wore an oversized hoodie with a skull on it. His white jeans were stained with blood, and his hightops were caked in mud.
"Daniel?!" I cried.
"You know him?" Ana asked.
"He's the oldest sibling," I whispered, "I never talked to him much, though."
"That's right," Daniel said, licking his lips, "I am the one who killed her, and now, you both are next."
He ran towards us, and Ana and I quickly opened the door and ran outside.
"Quick, run to the main town square!" I said.
"You can't run forever!" Daniel yelled. We both screamed as we ran. I let out a yelp as I tripped on my shoe lace.
Daniel pulled my hair. "I've got you now," he hissed, "I'm going to have to kill you before you tell any of my brothers."
Ana grabbed a garlic from her purse and threw it at Daniel. He screamed as the garlic stung his eyes.
"You just happened to have a piece of garlic in your purse?!" I cried as we were running away.
Ana blushed. "It's kind of a habit for everyone here. We are really superstitious."
We ran into the mall and breathed a sigh of relief. He wouldn't kill us in such a public location. "Have you ever been here before?" Ana asked.
"Nope," I said, "Should we tell a police officer?"
"I don't think that is a good idea," Ana replied, "We need some kind of proof. Plus, I don't think Daniel is going to be able to do anything for a while. Garlic affects them a lot."
"If he comes here, then we will have our proof."
Ana added, "We can tell an officer he was trying to kidnap us."
"Ok," I said, "So now what?"
"Well, since this is your first time being here, I want to show you around," Ana said. She took me to a clothing store that I had never heard of, but apparently it was really popular in this town.
"Does this look good?" I asked, wearing a grayish white dress that I had found gorgeous.
"It would look better if you took that scarf off," Ana said, pointing to the pink scarf that was wrapped tightly around my neck. The only reason i was wearing it was to hide the fang marks Kaito had given me.
"No, that's ok," I said, feeling queasy.
"Aurora, are you hiding something?" Ana asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nope," I said, scanning around the store, looking for a distraction. For a split second, I could have sworn I saw Kaito standing in the corner. I let out a gasp.
"What?" Ana questioned, looking back. Kaito wasn't there. Had I hallucinated the whole thing?
"Nothing," I said, wanting to get away from here as fast as possible "Let's just get something to eat. I'm starving."
******
"What did you order?" Ana asked as we sat on a wooden table in the center of the food court.
"A simple sandwich," I replied, "And you?"
"A white chocolate smoothie," Ana said, "They are really good."
I looked at the shop Ana ordered her smoothie and froze in horror. Over there, was Kaito! He looked at me and waved. I felt sick.
"Hey Aurora!" he yelled, walking towards us.
"You guys know each other?" Ana asked, "Who is he?"
"We both go to the same school," Kaito lied quickly, "In New York. Who would have thought we were both taking a vacation here?"
Kaito grabbed a chair and sat next to me. I just stared at him, my jaw dropping open.
"Aurora, you never told me you had such a hot friend," Ana remarked.
"That's because we aren't friends," Kaito said, putting his arm around me, "You didn't tell her we were dating, babe?"
Ana's jaw dropped open. "I'll be right back," I said, running to the bathroom. I walked to a sink, feeling sick. Why was he here? Had he been stalking me this whole time? If so, then had he seen the whole Daniel episode? Suddenly my eyes lit up. Daniel. If Kaito didn't know, then I had to tell him. I washed my face and walked back to the table.
"What took you so long?" Ana asked.
"Yeah, were you trying to escape?" Kaito added, glaring at me.
"Why didn't you tell me about your boyfriend?" Ana asked, "I thought you were single this whole time."
No! You don't understand; I'm basically his prisoner! "I guess it just slipped my mind," I said with a little laugh.
"So why are you here at the Czech Republic?" Ana asked Kaito.
"I'm just traveling around Europe with my family," Kaito said, fiddling with his silver Rolex watch on his arm. I wondered how he had stolen something so valuable.
"Did you know that Aurora is staying at a vampire's castle?" Ana asked.
"Vampires don't exist," Kaito stated icily.
"That's funny of you to say," I said without thinking.
"Why is it funny?" Kaito asked in a threatening voice. I wanted to yell at that moment that he was a vampire, but I had a feeling that he was going to immediately kill Ana if I did.
"Because someone tried to attack us today," I said trying to give the hint, "His name was Daniel."
"Are you serious?" Kaito asked, "In that case, we have to get him back."
