I was sitting in my room, reading a torn up copy of The Monk. The novel was so brutal and dark, yet it fascinated me. I wanted to swim with Vasile in that pool like we always did, but apparently I had developed a fear of water ever since I had died. Kaito had a fear of water too. According to him, the cause of death is always a source of fear for a vampire.
I could hear some shouting coming from downstairs, and curiously, I walked to the living room. I saw Vasile and Kaito playing with a bunch of empty bottles, acting more drunk than a group of bored sailors.
"What are you two doing?" I demanded.
"Aurora!" Vasile yelled. "Join us! This beer is really good!"
"After all, we Czechs love our beer," Kaito said, hiccupping.
"You guys are idiots," I stated.
Vasile giggled and took another cup of his beer and steered to the sofa. "I think I'm going to take a nap," he mumbled, closing his eyes.
"Here," Kaito said, handing me a glass.
"Not in the mood," I said, placing the glass down.
"Suit yourself," Kaito said, and I sat in the sofa opposite from Vasile. Kaito sat next to me.
"There is somethin' I need to tell ya," Kaito slurred.
"What?" I asked.
Kaito wrapped his arms around me, and I gasped.
"What are you doing?!" I cried, my face red.
"This summer is coming to an end," Kaito said, burrowing his face into my shirt. "I don't want you to move back to New York.:
"Kaito, I-"
Kaito kissed me on the lips. "I love you," he said. He kissed me on both cheeks. "I love you," he repeated. Then, he kissed me on the chin and on the lips again. "I love you so much, Rory."
I blushed. Just how drunk was he?
"Kaito, you are having a party, and you couldn't even invite your own father," Mr. Kinsberg cried, stepping into the room.
"What are ya doin' here?" Kaito snapped, jumping up.
"Wow, are you drunk?" Mr.Kinsberg asked with a laugh. "You really are such a disappointment."
"Ana!" Kaito shouted. "Can you please take Vasile out of here?!"
Ana ran into the room in full speed and dragged Vasile out before anyone could say anything.
"You know, I came here to kill you," Mr.Kinsberg explained, "but I've decided that would be too easy for you. I'm going to kill Vasile and Aurora, and then I'll keep you locked up where you will live a sorry and lonely life."
"What's wrong with you?!" I cried, and Mr.Kinsberg looked at me in shock. "How could you hate your own son so much? Why can't you just leave him alone?!"
I grabbed a wooden stake and ran towards Mr.Kinsberg at full speed. Mr.Kinsberg quickly grabbed the wooden stake and pushed it through my stomach. I choked, blood gushing out of my mouth.
"Kaito was always given everything," Mr.Kinsberg said, grabbing my hair, "but he chose to ruin everything. He corrupted his brothers, so they all had to die."
"Let her go!" Kaito screamed, running towards Mr.Kinsberg, but since he was drunk, he missed his punch. Mr.Kinsberg laughed and pushed the wooden stake through Kaito's stomach. Kaito fell onto the floor, and Mr.Kinsberg dragged both of our limp bodies to the dungeon.
I tried to move, but I was in so much pain from the wooden stake that I couldn't. Who knew that a stake could hurt so much?!
"I'm going to kill the girl you are in love with the moment we reach the dungeon," Mr.Kinsberg explained. "Then I will hunt Vasile and your two servants down and kill them."
"No, please," Kaito rasped, touching Mr.Kinsberg's foot with his bloody hand. "Don't kill Rory, kill me instead. I learned my lesson, ok? I was always happy that I killed my mother, and I never regretted drinking blood from ordinary citizens. But recently, I started feeling it. Regret. I think you have noticed it. I have changed. And now that I have, I think my very purpose of continuing to live is over. I was able to take care of my unfinished business."
Mr. Kinsberg stopped dragging us and looked at Kaito in shock. "Very well," he said. "If you want to die , then I shall grant your wish."
"No!" I screamed, trying to move, but the pain was so intense. Mr.Kinsberg grabbed the wooden stake and stuck it through Kaito's chest. Kaito gave out a monstrous shriek, but he didn't die. Tears pooled in my eyes. Kaito couldn't die! I barely survived when Nicholae died...how could I now?
"You are a strong fellow," Mr.Kinsberg said.
"I take it after you," Kaito joked, blood oozing down his eyes. Mr.Kinsberg struck the stake through Kaito again.
I sobbed, struggling to get my hands to move.
"Wow, he is still alive," Mr.Kinsberg said. "I guess one more hit will end it all."
Mr.Kinsberg raised his stake in slow motion, and before he could strike Kaito, someone shot a bullet through Mr.Kinsberg. Mr.Kinsberg gasped, falling to the floor, dead.
"Who needs a stake when you can use a vampire gun?" my mom said, walking out of the shadows. "Like seriously, this isn't the Middle Ages."
"Mom!" I cried, tears glistening in my eyes. "You are still alive?!"
"I was wrong to love Mr.Kinsberg, he was only brainwashing me," Ms.Stancy said. "I finally understood it when he killed that poor sweet little boy."
"His name was Bora," I said, wiping a tear.
"Come on," Ms.Stancy said. "Let's go home."
"Ok." I nodded.
