"Grayson? Your twin? That weirdo with straight As?" I asked, about to burst out laughing.
"Ey, watch your mouth" Ethan's eyebrows furrowed as he gave me the warning. I could see in his eyes how much he loved and cared for his twin brother. How he was willing to do almost anything to keep him happy.
"May I ask why?" I still asked, despite knowing the answer already.
He sighed. "You're smart enough. I'm sure you've already figured it out"
Indeed I had. His plan was modest, simple. Being the king of it all surely made the other half feel terrible, specially when he was the one receiving all the hatred while his twin got all the recognition. Girls despised him and guys didn't consider him good enough as was his twin brother Ethan.
Grayson had been all alone all these school years, and it came to the point where Ethan was desperate to see his other half happy again, therefore giving him new friends seemed to be the only way, even if they were fake.
He was a good man seeing all that, but that, was not a good plan. I realized that now.
At first I did not want to accept. Not because I felt bad for Grayson, but because I knew it would ruin my own reputation. Plus, it didn't see it benefitting me in any way.
That is, until he raised a whole stack of money in his calloused hands.
"I'll be giving you this, and more. I'll be giving you some time to think about it" He shoved the cash back into his backpack.
"How much time" I asked, swallowing my pride.
"You have until tomorrow morning. If it happens that I do not receive an answer from you, I'll consider it a no." He explained. "Think wisely. I don't have much time" He warned before leaving.
I was left there, all alone with the wind rushing by my side. My mind was a puzzle. Or was it? All I could think of was the money. Judge me all you want, but you can't deny the fact that money does run the world. And to me, survival was all that mattered to me.
Unlike most teenagers, I was not provided food at my dear home, nor sustained money by my own foster parents. Instead, I was given harsh words from my so called mother and nothing more than violence from my very own step-dad.
I never really liked the town, nor the people in it, so I left everything behind once I turned 18.
I'd been pretty much living in a small motel, where I'd befriended almost all the staff and even the person who ran the place. It was an advantage, since they took 50% of the payment, allowing me to pay half. But still, I was forced to take care of everything else.
This involved food, water, school material, clothes, and whatever nonsense I liked. You could say I pretty much lived by myself.
No one really knew about this. Not even Jannie.
Though I didn't really mind if anyone found out about my past. Afterall, I became reckless with everything I had been through.
The next morning, I woke up with a slight headache, which instantly turned me into a bad mood. Who doesn't hate headaches anyway?
I remember eating an awful breakfast, drank a can of coke and swang my bag to my shoulder, ready for another boring day at school. I did not bother showering, since I had already showered the previous night.
At that instance, Ethan's deal was the only thing in my head.
"Finally made up your mind?" He asked, taking a sip of his drink.
And so it happened.
