It had been three days since Alexei and Nicholas had left for the front, though Olive could have sworn they had been gone for weeks. Olive hadn't known it be this hard here without Alexei, she could have sworn she was going insane. It felt like she could just walk to Nicholas's office and Alexei would answer with his usual tired expression, which Olive still loved seeing. These last few months had been taking a lot out of Alexei. He was preparing to become the Tsar and preparing for the war front at the same time, he got little sleep as it was, worry had kept him up all night.

Alexandra would always sit down and write letters to Nicholas, a strained expression all over her face. Olive could tell Alexandra missed her husband just as bad as she missed Alexei, though Alexandra and Nicholas's love was more built than theirs. Olive hated seeing Alexandra give up on her letters and  then start burning them, knowing they would never reach Nicholas. Nicholas and Alexandra's love still ran pure, even after well over thirty years. Olive hoped her and Alexei would stay like that as they got older too, true love supposedly never ran cold.

Olga was staying with the family for a few days, without Erickson. He was visiting his family in Wales, and Olive wanted to inquire him on the island. She hadn't been there for over three years, she hadn't the slightest clue of its condition. However, she knew she couldn't. Erickson could easily tell Olga about her, and Olive wasn't sure if Erickson was cold enough to do it. Olive certainly didn't want to find out the hard way, putting herself and everyone at Miss Peregrines in grave danger from the outside world. Olga may not have known about Erickson's peculiarity,  though that was unlikely. They were married now,  and as much as it made Olive blush like a schoolgirl just thinking
about it, married couples did... intimate things.

Olive was now sitting in the gardens alone while the girls had tea with their mother in the Lilac Boudoir. Olive wasn't in the mood for tea, which was actually very unusual for her. She usually loved tea any time of the day, but now she didn't feel like doing anything that required extra work of her body. The gardens looked beautiful in the morning light, though she would admit it made the gardens hot as an oven too. The gardens were most beautiful at sunset, or dawn. She loved coming out to the gardens for fresh air, it always relaxed her mind as well as her body. She was a bit stressed lately,  having all these people trying to discreetly prepare her for becoming the Tsarina.

The position undeniably scared Olive, she would have to admit. She could barely keep track of children at Miss Peregrines, how could she keep track of an entire country? There were also so many things that were expected of her, she didn't know if she could give them. Olive knew she could have to give Russia it's heir, and that was a big scare. Alexandra had given birth to four children before finally producing a heir, much to her, Nicholas's, and Russia's impatience. Tatiana had even whispered to Olive that Nicholas had been so upset when Anastasia was born a girl he had to take a long walk to calm his nerves before he came and visited his newborn daughter.

Would Alexei react the same way? Olive hoped not. She knew if Alexei had done likewise to her, she could have been broken hearted. Alexei wasn't like his father though, Olive couldn't picture him doing that, even if he was in desperate need for an heir. Political things were an object too, though not a big one. Olive had read many things about political things she might need to do, so it wouldn't be too hard, but then again she had only read all of it. She loved Alexei, but he came with a title. She didn't care about the title, but it would still be branded to her like hot iron. No matter what, the title would still be on her, even after she wasn't the Tsarina. She would go down in history.

Olive heard panting behind her, and turned quickly to the sound. Ortipo, short and stubby, came bounding to her with his tongue sticking out humorously. Tatiana was a ways back, walking casually towards her. Olive pet Ortipo smiling, while the small dog panted in the early morning heat rays. "Hey little guy! What are you doing out here? " Olive asked, scratching Ortipo behind his small ears. Tatiana was within earshot now, though she had to yell a bit to be heard. "It got crowded in mothers boudoir, so I brought Ortipo out for some old fashioned fresh air." Tatiana explained, giggling.

Olive smiled, letting Ortipo sit in her lap. "I understand, we all need some room to breathe at times. "Olive admitted, nodding her head to the palace. Her and Alexei had always gotten some fresh air together, like a small elope. Tatiana sat beside Olive gracefully, making sure her skirt didn't show even the slightest bit of her stockings. Olive felt like laughing,  but knew not to. Tatiana was always so proper, it was almost hilarious.

Olive and Tatiana sat outside for about two more hours, talking under the hot sun. In the midst of their conversation,  Olive could almost forget Alexei had left.

Almost.
