As planned, the girls and I spent the night at Megan’s place. It was four in the afternoon and we were done changing into our dresses.

“I’ve got it all in here,” Maki said, waving her purse at us. “In case you girls need a retouch later, just come to mama and I’ll do it for you.”

“I don’t trust your retouch thing. I better not have one.”

“Brat. Ugh,” Maki groaned and the girls started laughing.

Despite the fact that it is prom day and that these girls around me are ecstatic, I still can’t find a perfect reason to smile. I’m nervous and… I don’t know. There’s something that makes me so uneasy about this whole thing. The prom, the letters…

Dona was as nervous as I am. She has been uneasy since last night and she couldn’t even sleep well no matter how hard she tried to.

Looking at her, Dona was sitting silently in front of the TV, looking at her phone every now and then, hoping to receive a text message. From who exactly?

Megan got up and stood in front of the mirror, fixing her dress for the last time. “We have an hour left before prom’s gonna start. If no one comes to get any of us in five minutes, then we’ve got to leave…” she paused, “on our own.”

Maki frowned. “Who’s gonna take us?”

“I took care of the ride. I already knew this would happen.”

“You sure are assuming,” Dona finally spoke up. “Someone might be coming to fetch us.”

Megan smirked, “dream on, girls. Prince charming ain’t coming. Now chop-chop, we have to go.”

“Oh well,” Maki sighed. “Come on, ladies. Get your fat asses off the couch. Let’s get moving.”

The moment Maki opened the door Kean was already standing outside, looking more uneasy than I am. When he found us staring at him, he gave us an awkward smile.

“Ooooh, one prince charming has come,” Maki exclaimed. “So who exactly are you here for?”

Kean met my eyes and I looked away not knowing what else to do.

Maki waved her hands at Kean. “Yohoo! Hey Mr. Montez, are we just gonna stand here or you gonna take us to school?”

He cleared his throat and scratched his head. “Oh, um… right. Yeah, let’s get going.”

We were already outside when Megan noticed something. “Where’s your car?”

“My car’s a sports car, not a limo.”

“Ugh,” Megan gave him a snob. “Here,” she told him as she threw her car keys, “drive mine.”

Kean accompanied us inside the hall and people were starting to stare at us strangely. Was there something wrong with what we’re wearing?

“You sure got lots of dolls, Montez,” a guy joked around. “Which one would get laid later?”

“Move out, jerk,” Maki spat and Kean gave the guy a pissed look.

“I was kidding, bro,” the guy said, backing off.

Somehow I felt a little better. The place turned out to be so much better than what I’ve expected.

The emcees already made their way to the stage and we welcomed them with warm applauses.
