"Hey you ok?" Lucy asks as we sit at the lunch table
"Huh-oh yeah...i'm alright" i mumble
"You've been zoned out all day, What's up?" Cassandra asks
"Nothing" i shrug
"I don't buy it"
"Emma i'm fine. Just go back to what ever you guys were talking about"
"Ok" they mumble.
They keep talking and i just keep thinking of how stupid i was yesterday.
Out walks Toby with his group of idiots, carrying his tray of food.
He glances at me and then looks away.
I wish i could dissapear.
Cassidy looks at me, confusion evident on her face.
"So i saw Jenna yesterday!" Cass smiles and i snap my head to her direction.
"Yeah, how is it possible she got prettier?!" Lucy groans
"She's still freaky smart" Emma laughs
"You all know her?"
"Of course. She's dated their brothers" Cassidy laughs
"And now she's dating yours" i mumble and no one hears.
"How long is she staying?" Cassandra asks Cassidy
How is Cass so calm about this?
She likes Toby or liked i don't know, but she's friends with this girl.
"A month i think. Maybe longer" De answers
"Lit. We've gotta chill" Lucy smiles
"She's literally always at my pool just come in over one day, she loves you guys"
"Who wouldn't love us" Emma jokes
"And Spence, i know she'd love to meet you"
"What does she look like?"
"Dark hair like mine, but styled like yours. Skinny but has shape, beautiful green eyes" Cass explains
"Oh.We met" i say
"You Did? When?"
"I came over to your house to see if you wanted to watch a movie and she answered saying you weren't there" i lie
"Oh. Well what did you think?"
"Of her? She's nice. She's in your house so your parents must aprove"i shrug
"Aprove?"
"Yea. It's Toby's girl friend is it not?" i ask and they laugh
"What's so funny?"
" Jenna is my cousin" she laughs "everyone always thinks she's Toby's girl friend. It's classic"
Cousin.
Cousin.
OMG...COUSIN!!
crap!
And now i feel even more stupid then i did before.
"oh. Oops" i awkwardly chuckle.
After school
"Just so you know, he's not seeing anyone" De says as we sit in her drive way.
"What?"
"Toby. I don't know what but I know something happened between you two. All I'm saying is he isn't dating anyone."
"What makes you think something happened?"
"I know you Spence. Just remember he's not that bad. Trust me. I know he is an ass at his worst, but when he cares about someone he's a different man"
"I don't know De. He was kind of an ass to me. But he was also sweet. I just don't wanna get mixed up in that stuff anymore. I have this year to focus on. Grade 11 and 12 are the most important years universities look at.
She pats my hand. "Whatever you decide or feel just know I support it."
"Thank's for the ride" she smiles
I nod as she walks to her door.
I sit in my car and process everything she said.
I'm not quite ready to forgive Toby just yet.
