Chapter 18

Spencer

"I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have trusted her" I say to Toby

"It's not your fault"

We are currently in my room, my parents are in a meeting all morning so we are enjoying the last few hours we have before they come to kill me.

"It is. If I didn't open my big mouth" I sigh

"No, it was going to come out eventually"

"They are going to call the cops on you"

"I know" he shrugs

"You are going to go to jail"

"It's better me then Melissa"

I gulp kneeing I have to tell him now

"I can't lose you now"

"I know, but I rather go then Melissa, I mean this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for me or my friends"

"I know Toby. But I need you here with me"

"Why do you keep saying that? Is so,etching wrong?"

I sigh "remember what happened between us two weeks ago?" I ask

"Yes" he nods

"Well.....we didn't...use"

"Oh." He mumbles

"So I checked and I'm.... You know"

"You are?" He asks

"Yes" I nod

"Oh my god"

"Horrible timing I know"

"But a baby. None of us are ready for that"

"I know.... But you see, I need you here. I can't do this alone"

"Spencer!" My father and mother call from downstairs

"Oh god"

I run downstairs and Toby comes beside me

"How dare you enter this house? How dare you touch my daughter after everything you have done?" My father yells

"Dad, just let me explain"

"You've explained enough!" He yells and my mom comes beside him

"What were you thinking getting involved with him?" She asks

"It's not what it seems to be"

"Really?" My dad laughs

My mom opens her iPad "your exact words are '"Toby and I were dating for a bit more then three months. We connected and he taught me things I've never thought of doing until I was married. He was my first real experience and I loved him' am I wrong?"

"No but I-"

"Save it, the cops are outside"

"No!" I gasp as I hold onto Toby

"You can't take him. Please. Let him explain"

"Why Spencer? So he can make up lies? We aren't naive like you Spencer. He's lying and you don't even notice"

"It's because they know the truth"Melissa says as we all turn to look at her

She comes down the stairs

The cops come In and stand at the door waiting for instruction

"What are you talking about Melissa?"

Melissa

I heard what Spencer told Toby.

She's pregnant and I can't do this to her.

Jason wanted me to protect her, this is my only way to protect her and that child of hers

I know my sister, no matter what she'd never get rid of it, she's against it a hundred percent. And it's not Toby's fault. I know he was innocent in all of this, but I was mad at myself for not being able to save my brother and for not recognizing  the difference, this is what needs to be done no matter how hard it is for me to admit or no matter what happens, I have to do This"

"Toby didn't kill Jason. I did"

"Nows not the time for jokes Melissa" my father says

"I'm not joking, ask April, Megan, Derek Louser, Toby, Ashley Bridges, Jake Summers. Ask Noah and James rivers, they all know the truth"

"Melissa this isn't funny!"

"I'm not joking," I sigh and tell the, the story

"What? How could you?" My mom gasps

"I...I didn't know it was Jason. I did what he asks and stayed quiet, but he also asked me to take care of Spencer, and I can only  do that if I come clean. If you don't believe me, the gun is upstairs in my room, in my closet under some bags o

The cops run upstairs

"I can't believe you" my mom says as tears slip from her eyes.

She walks into the other room and my father joins her

"Melissa why d-?"

"I was doing what Jason wanted. You have a lot more to worry about and you need Toby around" she nods as she looks to my stomach.

"Take care of her" she tells Toby and tears fall from my eyes

"I will" he nods

"Melissa..I....thank you"I cry

"I love you" she smirks before hugging me

"We found it!" The cops yell as they run downstairs

"Melissa Hastings you are under arrest for the murder of Jason Hastings" one cop says as he cuffs her while saying everything he has to, to her.

We stand frozen as Melissa gets taken out of the house.
