Shin POV
Utau was not pleased to hear about the death matches. They had met up in Shin room after supper as usual. He had then told her everything that Curse had told him about the death matches and the curses. The look of shock slowly fades from her face and she glares at Shin angrily.
"So she's going to make those kids kill each other?" Her voice is soft but it has a threatening edge to it.
Shin looks away from her burning eyes. "The point is for the victor to collect the curse of the loser." He says hesitantly. He really doesn't want to be having this conversation anymore. Utau is getting a little wound up.
"What does that even mean?" She has her teeth gritted and is shaking with tension.
"Our curses can be taken if we are weakened or killed. Just touch the curse mark and will it to be yours and it will transfer to you. You will also gain their power and memories." He explains further.
"What's the point of making us kill each other!" She screams at him.
Shin flinches, "I can take you to Curse. She can explain better." He really doesn't want to fight with Utau. It damages their ability to work as a team. So he leads her down to the third basement level. Being in Curse's presence immediately makes him feel calm. As long as he does his job she's not bad to work for.
"Explain what the hell is going on!" Utau yells at Curse as soon as she comes into sight. Shin flinches at her tone and moves to Curse's side to stand protectively. Utau yelling at her makes him slightly angry even if he doesn't understand why. Utau has every right to chew Curse a new one. She has it coming but the feeling of defensiveness remains.
"I take it Shin has told you of the next phase of this project and the second generation?" Curse says calmly and puts a book mark in the book she's reading before setting it aside.
"You're crazy if you think I'll go along with this quietly! Why do you want us to kill each other?" Utau screamed at her.
Curse rests her chin atop her laced fingers and looks at Utau calmly, "Simple. We wish to break you down." She says with a sharp edge. "We have no need for soldiers who question orders. All you need to do is what you're told. If they obey without question they will not be harmed."
Utau goes pale at Curse's words, "Soldiers? What are you talking about? Soldiers, for what war?" She says her voice steadily rising to a yell.
Curse raises her hand in a motion for Utau to quiet down, "Don't yell. It's not for you to know about the inner workings of the Curse Carrier Project. Remember Utau I will give you free reign as long as you don't pry where your nose doesn't belong. Keep in mind you can be replaced." Curse sits up straight and crosses her legs like a princess. "I believe I've told you all you need to know." She nods toward Shin. "Escort Utau out."
Shin acknowledges the order with a quick glance and steps towards Utau. She steps a side as he gets close. "I'm not done with you!" She screams. Shin feels angry and grabs Utau's sleeve with his gloved hand. "Let me go! I'm not done talking!" She yanks her arm away.
Shin reigns his emotions back and looks at Utau coldly, "It is time to go. Do not resist or I will resort to drastic measures." For the first time he sees a hint of panic in her eyes. She turns to glare at Curse one last time but then allows Shin to lead her back to the elevator.
Shin can see she's still clearly very angry with him and Curse. Her nails are digging into her palms and her shoulders are shaking with suppressed fury. When they get in the elevator Shin feels the irrational anger from a moment before drain taking his energy with it. He leans against the wall heavily as the doors close and the elevator starts going up. Shin senses it before Utau even says anything.
