Utau POV
The next morning at breakfast Utau sees Kami and Kiri are sitting with someone new. There are a lot of new faces in the cafeteria as well. Utau remembers briefly that the second generation had arrived yesterday. Some are little more than small children huddling in groups and crying in terror. She feels her heart stab with pity for the frightened kids.
She turns back to look closer at the new boy sitting with Kami and sees he's a second generation Curse Carrier. His curse mark is displayed prominently on his left cheek. Utau turns away to go and talk to the more frightened children and calm their fears. After breakfast Utau goes to her classes but she finds it difficult to focus on what the teachers are saying. Her mind keeps wandering to the death matches she's supposed to be setting up. She can't think of a single person for the matches.
By combat training that afternoon she's no closer to figuring anything out. Half way through the class the door opens and a boy is pushed in. The instructor with him talks to the G1 class's instructor for a moment before leaving the boy here and going back to his own class. Utau recognizes the boy by the mark on his cheek.
He looks around the class shyly as the instructor talks to him. When he spots Kami doing practice drills by himself his eyes light up. He takes the knife from the instructor and jogs up to Kami. Kami stops his drills to talk to the boy. Utau feels uneasy and walks up to them. The scars on her arms and legs feel tight and itchy at times like these. Kami doesn't care if someone has less skill than him and will attack everyone as an equal. Even if it hurts them.
The boys look at her as she gets close. Kami smiles like he always does and the new boy looks at her curiously. "Who's she?" He asks Kami.
"She's Utau. She's the leader of the Curse Carriers. If you have any questions she's the best one to ask." He tells the other boy.
He looks back at her, "My name's," he pauses, "Kai."
Utau looks at his shirt to see if he got his name right. Seeing he has she smiles, "I see. My name is Utau. As Kami said I am the leader of the Curse Carriers." She points to her black haired counter part who is watching the class with a bored expression, "He is my second in command Shinimasu. If you can't find me you can speak to him."
"Neat." He mutters.
"If you don't mind my asking why are you here? Have you decided to train with Kami today?" She asks feeling concerned.
"Back home I practiced some martial arts. My teacher said since I already had experience I might as well join one of the G1 classes. I was told class A had a vacancy." He smiles at Kami, "I'm glad Kami is in this class. I was worried about not knowing anybody."
"You arrived last night. How do you already know Kami?" Utau asks and turns her gaze suspiciously on Kami.
"I met him last night. I was really scared but he gave me a pep talk. I feel a lot better now." Kai says.
Utau looks at Kami with open suspicion now. "Pep talk? Doesn't sound like you." She tells him.
Kami puts on a face of mock offense, "I give you pep talks all the time. How rude." He says sarcastically.
"You threatened to break my arms. That's not a pep talk." Utau replies. She turns to Kai, "I know you might want to practice with Kami but I recommend you find someone else for today. I want to talk to Kami for a bit." Utau tells Kai.
Kai looks at her confused but nods and runs off to find someone else to train with.
"Hey, I was going to teach him today." Kami complains.
