Sammael POV

~~Fourty years ago~~

Sammael is in the hospital with a broken leg. He had carelessly fallen out of a tree and broken it badly. The doctors have done what they can but he's already been told it will probably be twisted for the rest of his life. When he looks at the clock his gets his crutches and heads for the roof. The roof used to be a smoking area for doctors but it's been repurposed for patients to get some fresh air.

Sammael had met a new friend up there not long after he came out of surgery. He's a teenage boy about the same age as him named Kowasu. He has bandages around his eyes and scars on his face. He's been in the hospital for awhile but Sammael doesn't really know why. Kowasu also has a pet raven he feeds on the rooftop.

He couldn't wait to get there and talk to Kowasu. He had just had a fight with his parents. Kowasu is a good listener and alsways has advice about things like this. They might be the same age but he is deffinitely more expirenced than Sammael. When he gets to the rooftop Kowasu is already there feeding the raven. As Sammael gets close the bird takes off and flies to the rooftop across the street.

The other boy raises his head and turns his head in Sammael's direction. "Sammael?" He asks.

"It's me." He says sitting down on the other end of the bench.

The other boy smiles faintly, "Is something troubling you?"

It never ceases to amaze Sammael how perceptive he is. "Yeah. I got into another fight with my parents. Now that my leg will never fully heal they want to have me home schooled. They also want me to work for my dad when I graduate instead of go to college." He says.

He sees a book laying between them and he looks at it curiously. He picks it up and opens it to see if he can tell what it's about. Surprisingly it's not written in brail. "Do you like mythology?" Kowasu asks.

Sammael jumps and puts the book back down. "Yeah, I guess so. I've heard that every myth is based in the truth somewhere down the line." He replies.

"Some are. I find it fun to see how much people get wrong." He says with a secret smile.

Sammael raises an eyebrow at him curiously. "It's not like any of it is real. It's just a bunch of stories now." He says dismissively.

"Hey, want to hear a myth that's one hundred precent true? It's one of the stories you love so much but it all happened just as I will tell it." He asks.

Sammael feels skeptical but shrugs. "Sure. I like a good story."

"Once upon a very long time ago there was a set of twins. A brother and a sister. These twins did many bad things." He starts the story. He weaves a masterful tale about two siblings who wreaked havoc all across the earth until the gods themselves had to step in and stop them. As punishment they were locked in the form of wandering deities that had to wander the earth until all of the suffering they had caused was undone. The sister had only one arm and the brother's eyes had been plucked out by birds leaving his face scarred. These marks remained even after they were turned into gods. They wandered the earth undoing the damage they had caused for centuries. They worked tirelessly until one day they were dragged out of the heavens by sorcerers. They were trapped in a human form and their powers locked away. As time passed the brother and sister were seperated and without the powers the gods had given them they were unable to find one another.

The story was so compelling that Sammael hung on to every word. Despite how imporbable the story seemed every word sounded like the truth to him. He was mesmorized. "Wow. And all of that really happened?" Sammael asks when Kowasu reaches the end of the story.

He reaches up around his head and starts picking at the bandages around his eyes. "Of course it did. I was there to watch it all unfold." He says. The bandages come loose and fall around his shoulders and into his lap revealing his face. The scars on his cheeks lead up to his eyes and look like they were scratched into his face by claws. His eye lids seem to be caved in and when he opens his eyes he sees why. Kowasu doesn't have eyes and instead all he can see are the empty sockets.

Sammael feels slightly sickened by the grotesque appearance, but over powering that is a deep curiosity. "You're the brother from the story aren't you?" Sammael asks. Kowasu nods and Sammael feels giddy with excitement. "So cool!"

"So you believe me?" He asks closing his empty eye sockets.

"I do! This is so cool!" Sammael says excitedly. "So is it true you're trapped in a mortal form and can't use your god powers?"

"Unfortunately." He nods. "I can still use some of my power but my human vessel can't withstand the force of my power and will turn to dust." He explains. He holds his hand up in the air and his raven flies back to him. "I want to find my sister and restore us to our natural forms. In order to do that though I will need help." He says. The raven lands on his arm and croaks loudly.

Sammael looks at the bird amazed. He had never seen a bird so big. "What do you need help with?" He asks stunned.

"This is my familiar Eiko. We won't last much longer in this world. Human bodies are being born weaker and weaker. This will probably be my last life for a long time." He says stroking the bird's chest feathers.

"Is there anything I can do?" Sammael offers. "You said the spell can be broken. How can I help?"

Kowasu's smile looks almost victorious. The raven flies away and pearches on the railing of the roof pavilion. "Very well. There is something you can do." He says. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out something wrapped in a silk hankerchief. He unwraps a gleaming red round crystal. "If you let me use your body I can use your help to break the spell over us." He holds the red crystal out to Sammael and he takes it.

He feels a little wary when he holds the warm crystal in his hands. It's about the size of a human eye. As he stares into its depths though he feels his reservations melt away. "How do I do that?" He asks feeling almost like he's in a dream.

"Swallow the crystal and all my knowledge will become yours. You will even know how to summon my sister. You will learn everything you need to know." Kowasu's voice takes on a hypnotic quality.

His thoughts feel like they're moving through molassis. He puts the marble in his mouth and swallows it. It hurts for a moment because it's so large. He feels the glass slide down the sides of his throat a briefly worries about choking. Then he can't feel it anymore once it reaches his stomach. His thoughts start to speed up and the dream like atmosphere begins to dissolve. For a moment he doesn't feel any different and start to feel a little foolish.

"I don't feel any different." He turns to Kowasu. His heart skips a beat when the other boy goes limp and falls to the ground. Before he can call out to him or try and help him he feels the crystal heat up and shatter in his stomach. The shards pierce him and he screams in pain. He kneels on the ground trying to catch his breath and fight the pain. He's shaking and he can feel a feverish sweat break out over the surface of his skin. His vision flickers and his head starts pounding. After a few minutes he faints and everything goes dark.

He wakes up a few minutes later still on the roof. His head is humming with knowledge and memories that aren't his. His brain teems with information on a world long lost and how he can bring it back. A plan formulates in his mind and he knows exactly what he has to do.

He pushes back the pain in his leg and head and gets to his feet. He knows how to change the world and he uses that determination to overcome the pain of walking. The first step is to take over his father's business and inheriate his fortune.

He smiles and stwps over the dead body at his feet. He limps to the door and smiles victoriously. "The Curse Carrier Project begins now." He chuckles.
