Shin POV
Shin watches the fight between Wakari and Sunpo. Both him and Utau decided they should be there at the observation window to watch. Utau is standing nervously wringing her hands. Shin feels tempted to touch her hands in a silent word of comfort but quickly squishes the thought. He's wearing his fingerless gloves today and any contact is far too dangerous.
Down below Wakari and Sunpo are released into the room and the doors sealed shut behind them. Sunpo calmly walks towards the center of the room. Wakari looks around nervously and also moves towards the center of the room. When they're only a few yards apart Wakari snaps and vanishes from sight. A moment later a cut appears on Sunpo's chest. She stumbles back and her eyes flash silver. She raises her dagger and blacks the next invisible strike. Though the speakers Shin can hear the sounds of the metal knives clashing.
A shriek comes through the speakers and Wakari reappears with a gash in his right arm. He looks around frantically like he wants to escape then vanishes again. Blood drops are appearing on the ground now where he's been. Sunpo charges and swings her dagger and blood spray appears across the floor. She flinches and jumps back and another light scrap appears on her arm.
Sunpo has the advantage in this fight as predicted. She's remaining calm and using her curse to observe Wakari. Even though Shin can't see Wakari's injuries he knows they're worse than the light scrapes Sunpo has received. As long as her stamina holds out this should be an easy win. With both of them using their curses while fighting it will tire them out faster. Research has proven that a Curse Carrier's curse is a lot like any muscle. It grows stronger with use and weaker if neglected. If it's over used it can even take damage and begin to weaken until allowed time to rest. That's the reason Shin's power had gotten more powerful the more he tried to control it by practicing on not killing things.
Wakari reappears in the middle of the room a ways from Sunpo. He's out of breath and bleeding badly. His right arm is broken and bleeding from multiple lacerations. He has a cut below one of his eyes and he favors his left leg. His right foot also appears to be broken and a cut in his thigh is causing blood to pool around his feet. At this rate he will probably bleed to death in a few more minutes. Despite all that his eyes are blazing with fury and he clearly wants to keep going.
Sunpo still looks calm and collected and only sports a few shallow cuts on her arms and legs. The worst injury she has is a cut on her neck that seems to be impairing her breathing. Looks like Wakari got a lucky strike in to Sunpo's windpipe. As long as she can deal with the discomfort she will just fine.
Shin looks at the clock for a second to see it's only been fifteen minutes. When he looks back down Wakari has disappeared again and Sunpo is fighting her invisible adversary. Why he keeps using his power against someone that can still see him Shin doesn't know.
Wakari and Sunpo's abilities are actually fairly similar which is why they oppose each other so well. Wakari's ability works in a couple different ways. He can either bend light which would make it harder even for Sunpo to see him but he can only use that on one or two people. The version he's using that makes him invisible to everyone is the one that's similar to Sunpo's ability. It's easier for him to actually build a temporary pocket dimension around himself. While inside that pocket of space he can still see and interact with our world but he can't be seen. He must not fully understand Sunpo's ability if he's using the dimensional warping version of his ability.
Sunpo's ability allows her to see into other dimensions but not interact with them. She's been working with her ability so she can even see multiple planes of existence if she tries. Eventually she might even have the ability to step into other dimensions. For now her ability only affects her eyes. By using her curse she can see into the pocket dimension that Wakari is hiding in and strike at it. Considering he keeps reappearing every few minutes she might even be breaking his pocket dimension and forcing him to reappear.
The wall splatters with blood and Wakari reappears thrown against it. He struggles to sit up and blood pours out of his mouth. He tries to stand but collapses again. His injuries are severe enough he can't get up anymore. Sunpo looks stressed now as her calm begins to cave in. She stands a couple feet away and watches Wakari with a horrified expression as he stops moving and goes limp.
She kneels in front of him and touches his neck to see if he's still alive. Then she reaches over and touches his curse mark on his upper right forearm. The black mark seems to slide off of Wakari's skin and up Sunpo's fingers like a living thing. She flinches and grits her teeth like it hurts. When the curse is fully transferred she stands up and back away. She looks pale now and is visibly shaking.
"Lets go see her." Utau says. Her voice shakes ever so slightly in a way Shin knows she's trying to not let it.
"Calm down first." Shin tells her.
She nods and closes her eyes and takes a few deep breathes. When she opens them again she seems to be more in control of herself. Shin follows her out of the room and down the stairs two at a time. When they reach the locked doors closest to Sunpo Utau uses a key command to open the doors. Sunpo looks up as they enter the room.
"Are you alright?" Utau asks walking up to her. She puts a comforting hand on Sunpo's shoulder.
The other girl opens her mouth as if to say something but quickly covers her mouth and pukes up her morning shake. She falls to her knees and tears start pouring out her eyes. Utau ignores the mess and wraps her arms around the sobbing girl.
"It's okay. It's okay." She says softly. She looks at Shin and mouths, "Dr. Blackmoore."
Shin nods and quickly leaves to go get the doctor. When he gets back with her the woman gives Sunpo some sleeping pills to help her calm down. Wakari's body is removed to be taken to the morgue and a team starts cleaning up the blood. Sunpo is taken back to the infirmary to sleep it off.
Utau and Shin quickly head for Wakari's room to retrieve his journal before Samael's men can clean it out. Already in the room is Wakari's roommate. He tries to smile but he can't seem to bring himself to. He's holding a lime green composition book with Wakari's name on it.
"Did he write anything in it?" Utau asks him.
The younger boy nods but doesn't say anything. His eyes are red like he's been crying. He hands the notebook to Utau and finally finds his voice. "He wrote something for you." He says.
Utau looks surprised and opens the notebook to the first page. The whole page is covered with the same to words written over and over again. 'I'm scared'. Utau flinches when she sees the words but flips to the next page. The next five pages have the same words written on them in an endless stream. After that the next couple pages are blank. Utau stops at the third blank page and stares at the two words written at the top. 'Thank you'.
"Is this all he wrote?" Utau asks the boy.
He nods. "I guess that's all he had to say." He says quietly.
"Lets go. Samael's men will be here soon." Shin speaks up. He looks at the other boy, "You might want to make yourself scarce as well. Bring your journal with you." The boy nods and leaves the room quickly.
Utau closes the notebook. She turns for the door and walks out. Shin follows her back to the dorms. Before heading to her room she gives the journal to Shin to hide in his room and later give to Curse for safe keeping.
Shin returns to his room as well and puts the notebook down on a bookshelf he was given to hold his ever expanding book collection. He sits on his bed and looks at the phone he had left in his room this morning. He turns the screen on to see he has missed messages. They're from Kami. He has made it to Ireland and has begun befriending Aidan Burns. He closes his phone without writing a reply.
He picks up the notebook Curse had given to him. The cover is purple and black. She also gave him one to give to Kami. A yellow and black composition notebook.
He opens the purple notebook and stares at the blank first page. He has a lot he could write but he doesn't know how to put it all into words right now. Instead he thinks back to when he met Utau and recalls the sad song she sang. Her voice was far from perfect back then but the sad little girl's voice had matched the song she sang.
He picks up a pen and writes down all he can remember of the song. He then puts the notebook back on his dresser. He can think of something to write to his family later.
