Shin POV
Two days before Kami was supposed to return Shin gets an e-mail from him. It's a full length report of the whole mission. Apparently he's currently sitting at the airport with Aidan and about to bored a plan to the US. When he arrived in Ireland he immediately began school and got close to Aidan. They had bonded over a common interest in mythology and old fairy tales. He then spent the night at Aidan's house and had learned more about him. He apparently has a rocky relationship with his mother and two older brothers. His parents are separated and he is unhappy with his home life.
He gained Aidan's trust and he showed him where his secret hideout in the woods was. It was there he learned Aidan does not have Sora's memories but he does have all of Sora's combat training. The next day Aidan got into a physical altercation with his older brother and broke his arm. After that they started talking about running away from home and going to live in America with Kami's "father" Samael.
Shin doesn't have time to read the whole thing as classes are about to start. He leaves the room and heads to morning classes. When he glances at Utau he notices she seems exceptionally irritated today. After class when the room is empty Shin walks up to her and she glares at him and he takes a step back. It might be his responsibility to deal with her and her moods but he doesn't have to like it.
"You look like you are in a bad mood." He comments.
"I noticed a couple days ago that something was weird but I couldn't put my finger on it. Then today I realized what it is." She smiles at him, "Shinimasu, where's Kami?"
Shin sighs, Utau rarely calls him by his full Curse Carrier name unless she's really mad at him specifically. Well, I stalled her for almost week. Take what you can get. He thinks to himself. "Kami is out on a mission." Shin answers her warily.
"Out? Like outside out?" She asks hopefully.
"I would not get your hopes up. Samael chose him personally. He would not pick someone who would leak information to the outside." Shin tells her.
She gets a stubborn set to her face. "He does have an unpredictable streak though. Who knows what he might do."
Shin shakes his head. "He will not run. He will not tell. He was chosen for this mission because they know he will come back."
"Maybe he will maybe he won't." Utau argues.
"He will not. I know him better than anyone. He will keep his mouth shut and come back willingly. It is not worth running and missing out on what he thinks is the best thing that has ever happened to him. He thinks this project is an adventure and he does not want to miss a single moment." Shin tells her with a bitter tone.
Utau looks white as a sheet. She knows Kami is messed up in the head but apparently she didn't know about this. "Adventure? What the hell is he thinking! People are dying. This isn't fun! What the hell is wrong with him!" She yells.
Shin can't help but agree. "He does not think like a normal kid. He compares this whole project to the adventure dreams he had back in his old life. He has said he is having fun so in his own words he does not want to go home."
Utau struggles to reign her emotions back in. "So why didn't they send you?"
"Put simply Samael does not trust me. My curse is unstable and could be easily discovered. Plus I would not miss an opportunity to tell my family I am okay. I am not dumb enough to give away any information but I highly doubt Samael would see it that way. It just is not worth risking my life and my family's life for." He states.
Utau nods and touches the back of her neck. "I had forgotten about the capsules and the bomb in your chest. I'm sorry." She quietly says.
Shin smiles. "It is okay. You can be a little absent minded sometimes." He teases her.
