Utau POV

In power training class Utau has two other classmates. A girl named Senritsu and a boy named Kikoeru. Senritsu is a twelve year old American Chinese girl with a power very similar to Utau's. Where as Utau can make her voice sound like someone else's it is limited to just that. Senritsu's power allows her to mimic any sound she hears. Kikoeru is a outgoing eight year old boy from Thailand. His power allows him to manipulate sound in general. As long as he has a sound to work with he can make it louder or softer at will or distort it into an entirely new noise.

Because the three students each have a sound based power they were all put in the same class and labeled 'The Sound Class'.

"Today we will be continuing with training to weaponize your abilities." Ms. Monette says. Since their class is so small they only have one instructor. "Utau, you first." She says.

Utau nods and steps to the front. Ms. Monette puts a glass beer bottle down on a stool. Kikoeru and Senritsu put in their ear plugs. Ms. Monette doesn't bother with ear protection. You would never know unless you've been talking to her for awhile but she's actually completely deaf. Apparently she was in an accident several years ago and she blew out her eardrums. The damage was so bad it never healed and she lost her hearing.

Utau takes a deep breath and focuses her attention on the glass bottle. She opens her mouth and changes her voice to a high octave that makes the lights flicker. The bottle starts to vibrate, but before it could break Utau's throat stabbed in pain and she coughed ending the high note. She can create the octave but she doesn't have the ability to maintain the pitch before the stress on her throat causes her to feel pain.

"Catch you breath. Kikoeru, your turn." Ms. Monette says.

Utau steps back as Kikoeru walks to the front. Utau puts in her earplugs and watches. So far he's the only one that has been able to break anything with his power. It only happened once though and he hasn't been able to do it since. Kikoeru's eyes flash silver and the air slowly begins to vibrate. Utau's vision becomes distorted as the sound vibrates her eyes themselves. The bottle shakes violently then falls over. The room grows quiet again as he bends over gasping for air. Unfortunately his power only seems to work as long as he's focusing so hard he stops breathing. He fainted once.

Ms. Monette resets the bottle and summons Senritsu to try. She uses a similar tactic to what Utau did but to no avail. Ms. Monette sighs heavily at yet another failure. "What to do with you kids." She says. "If you can't break even a glass bottle how do you intend for your powers to be useful."

Utau hangs her head in shame. She feels bad she isn't living up to this woman's expectations. Since starting this class their powers had started to get a lot stronger but not to the point they would be deemed 'useful'. Her own power was at it's strongest when she was angry or in pain. Usually that was the only way she could shatter glass. In any other situation she just isn't able to summon the pitch. Maybe if she had Kikoeru's ability to amplify sound. At least until she was able to do it on her own.

"Ms. Monette!" Utau raises her hand. When the instructor looks at her and nods she puts her hand down. "I think I have an idea. What if we combine our powers? Kikoeru can amplify Senritsu's and my powers."

"I have thought of that. I don't see the use though in combining your abilities. Helping someone lift something heavy doesn't make them stronger. It will only make them weaker." Ms. Monette says.

"I think Utau has a point." Senritsu speaks up. "Even if someone helps you pick the bucket up it's still heavy. Which means both of you have to get stronger in order to pick it up. Then when it isn't heavy anymore you should both be able to carry the bucket on your own." She explains.
