Shin POV
Shin watches the children milling around the room down below. A cloud of mist sprays out of the vents and rains down over them. Some scream and panic breaks out. He looks over when he hears humming to see Kami is watching with a smile on his face. Shin feels his insides curdle at his expression.
"You do know most of them are going to die." Shin points out.
"I know." He says without a change of expression.
"Then why are you so happy?" He questions.
He laughs softly, "Because the next phase is beginning. It's exciting." He bounces on his heels. "I haven't had this much fun in my entire life. Well, except the dying part. That's not very fun." He adds.
"You need to learn some tact." Curse says walking onto the ramp with them. When Kami looks at her confused she adds, "You have a tendency to be a little too cold towards your fellow humans."
"I don't get it." Kami says.
Curse sighs, "I didn't think you would."
"How many generations are there going to be?" Shin asks Curse.
"As many as it takes to get five hundred Curse Carriers. So possibly four or five." She answers him. Down below the paralyzed children are being taken out in small groups to the experiment rooms. Shin notices most of the children are the same age as the first generation, but none are over ten.
"I take it Samael has decide to no longer use preteens." He says.
Curse nods, "Anyone over the age of ten either died or developed unstable curses that are either very weak or can't be controlled." She explains.
"So some of them are the same age as me?" Kami asks.
"I would say at least half are the same age as you." She agrees.
"Can I pick a friend from this group?" He asks.
Curse raises an eyebrow, "I don't particularly mind if you make friends. You just have to keep away from organized groups."
"Yay! I'm gonna take one under my wing and it's gonna be awesome!" He yells excitedly.
"Okay okay. Just don't get carried away." Curse dismisses him. "For now we should return to our posts. Shin you need to talk to Utau. Tomorrow she has to introduce herself to the second generation." She tell Shin.
"I will." He promises.
"Okay then. You're both dismissed." She says.
Kami jumps off of the railing and skips over to the elevator humming happily. "I'm going on ahead. Kiri and I have sparing practice in a thirty minutes." He says before closing the doors.
"He is way too laid back about this." Shin comments feeling disturbed.
"I think he's coping the only way he knows how. From what I've heard Kami likes to daydream when he gets stressed or bored. It's possible he's not accepting this as reality and has chosen to treat this whole situation as one of his imaginings. It doesn't help how intelligent he is. It disconnects him from reality even further. The final nail in the coffin will probably turn out to be his curse. You can't die in dreams either. The very thought of a world existing without you is inconceivable." She explains.
"Kami is a very conflicting person." Shin states.
When the elevator comes up Shin leaves as well. He goes to floor eight where everyone is starting to gather for their hour of free time. Some do their homework and others socialize. Some leave in pairs or small groups to either hang out in the dorms or have mock battles in the training rooms. Kami and Kiri are still around talking to some of Kiri's classmates. Kami looks bored and keeps inching closer and closer for the door.
