"He did what?!" I pulled a face and quickly held the phone away from my ear. "Jesus, Lucy, are you trying to deafen me?" I asked her and glared at the phone in my hand. "Sorry, sorry!" Lucy quickly apologized, still sounding a little caught off guard. "I was just a little surprised, that's all!" She said and I snorted. "You don't say."
"So tell me again, what exactly did he say when he asked you out?" Lucy demanded to know, going fully into the 'best friend mode'. I threw a glance at my bedroom door, hoping that Louis would take a little longer in the bathroom so that I could finish my girl talk with Lu. Today's events still seemed very, very unreal to me and I was in desperate need of some heart to heart with my best friend. With a nervous chuckle, I pulled my knees to my chest and leaned into the pillows on my bed, telling Lucy all about Rosie's birthday party.
Lucy listened excitedly, letting out a happy squeal here and there. "And you said yes?" She shrieked when I had finished. I exhaled loudly and shook my head, still not able to process the fact that Louis Tomlinson had asked me out on a date. "I believe I did." I said and giggled when Lucy let out a loud cheer on the other end of the line. "Well, I'm not going to say that I wasn't expecting it to happen eventually. The way the two of you have been making goofy eyes at each other for months was seriously annoying." Lucy said after she had calmed down enough to have a proper conversation again.
I huffed. "Oi, excuse you, Louis and I have not been making goofy eyes at one another!" I said indignantly. Lucy only laughed. "Please, it was so obvious to everyone else! Niall and Liam actually made a bet how long it would take Louis to find his balls and ask you out." "Unbelievable!" I said and shook my head but there was a broad grin on my face. "Well, that's what friends are here for, eh?" Lucy said and I could imagine the smug expression on her face right now.
"Just wait till I tell Niall and the other lads, they are going to be so happy!" She said excitedly and I shifted uncomfortably on my bed. "Lu, please do me a favour and keep this to yourself for a while." I pleaded and started chewing on my nails, like I always did when I was nervous. "Why?" The confusion was clear in Lucy's voice. "Lu, I told you because you're my best friend and I really need you in on this but Louis and I, well mostly me, think that it might be better to keep it between us. Just until we know where we are heading with this. We just want to enjoy the fact that we are starting to go out without pressure or expectations from anyone... I am not making much sense, am I?" I finished and let out a nervous laugh.
Lucy was silent for a moment and I could basically hear her brain working. "No, Abby, actually I think that you make perfect sense." Lucy finally said and I let out a breath of relief. Lucy knew me better than anyone and it felt good to talk to her about this. "Abby you have always been a very private person, I understand your decision. If you and Louis really work out this is going to be a bit of a life change for you, isn't it? You won't be able to keep it a secret forever." She said and I felt my stomach churn. "I believe so, yes."
I paused and caught myself chewing on my nails again. "So don't you think it makes me a bad person that I am making Louis keep it from his lads that we are dating while I call you the minute he leaves the room?" I said and bit my lip, feeling slightly guilty. Lucy, however, only laughed. "Oh honey, you're a girl, you just have to talk about this sort of stuff!" A grin flickered across my face but I still couldn't shake off the guilty feeling. "But still, maybe he wants to talk about it as well you know..."
