Schrödinger Cat was both dead and alive.

This was because he put the cat in a box of several days with a limited supply of food and water. Schrödinger had no idea how long the cat would live. This made the cat dead or alive until he opened the box. Therefore the cat could be both at the same time.

It's easy not to take much notice of this theory when it's first encountered. However, upon further examination, it is clear that it is extremely important, even within the boundaries of every day life.

For example, there could be an email on someone else's computer that you happen to stumble upon from a recipient you know dislikes you. The subject seems like it could be able you, but you're not sure. There's no way of knowing until you open the email. Before you open the email, it is both about you and not about you.

It's likely that nosiness will win out and the email will be opened, ending the theory there. Whereas if it's not opened it's usually because of the saying "ignorance is bliss", an act of self preservation. You don't want to know that a potentially hurtful email could be about you, so you choose not to look - looking would be self-destructive. Once you've looked, the answer is unquestionable. The email either is or is not about you; there's no coming back from that, you cannot turn back the clock.

Everyday you decide whether to open the box. The simple question is: is it worth knowing?

If the answer is yes then go ahead.

If the answer is no, which it so often is, then leave the cat in the box - both dead and alive.

Schrödinger's Cat is like the answer, but sometimes ignorance is bliss.
