I bit back as sob as the disgusting, dirty air invaded my airways and started filling up my lungs. I tried to cough as quietly as possible, but when I glanced down at me hands a strangled cry escaped my chest. My unusually small hands were covered and caked in bright, crimson-red blood, glancing up I noticed my surroundings for the first time. I was standing in front of my pack house watching as the flames greedily destroyed my home piece by piece.
A low growling sound erupted from behind me and as I slowly turned around I was met with the striking silver eyes of a Dark Ash wolf. Swallowing down a whimper I tried my best to find a way to escape, but the wolf sensed this and hunched lower getting ready to pounce. Screaming I ducked my head and ran, but to no avail, sharp teeth cut into my flesh as the wolf bit down onto my leg, slowing me down. As he yanked me down onto the ground I looked into those empty, soulless eyes and those were the last thing I saw-
My heart jolted and my immediate reaction was to breathe in deeply as my eyes sprang open, sitting up in the bed I blinking away the still remaining images of my hands and my pack house and those eyes, I tried calming down my racing heart. Looking at the clock I sighed when I saw it was only midnight, I had three hours of sleep. A soft groan next to me nearly caused me to scream out in shock.
Staring at the dark figure next to me I tried figuring out whether the hallucinations have started or if I've gone crazy. I tried blinking it away but it stayed there, the figure of Bradley softly breathing still remains no matter what I do. I've gone crazy. Grumbling I got out of bed, quickly changed into workout clothes and then made my way to the door, but his sleepy voice stopped me in my tracks.
"Come back to bed, Dakota" he mumbled and I froze.
"He's not real. He's not real. He's not real" I chanted as I tried to calm my thoughts and my heart. "You're hallucinating Dakota. He's not really there, he's with Emily, you know that. He's not here, he's never here" I tried convincing myself, when I looked back at the bed, it was empty.
"You see, just a hallucination, that's all" I muttered and then left the bedroom to go to the gym might as well get some training in since I won't be sleeping anymore.
Entering the gym, I relaxed slightly and flipped the lights on, rolling my shoulders loose and craning my neck, I started warming up. When my muscles were loose and warmed up, I headed over to the pull up bar, grabbing the bar and adjusting my hands into a comfortable position I started doing chin-ups. My muscles strained and objected with each movement and I groaned, I hate the effect those shots have on me, it wasn't as much the wolfsbane as it was the daisies, those were the bitches.
Ever since I was a kid and I lost control and the guardians injected me with it, I found that pushing my body physically sometimes helped with the side-effects. Although it hasn't been working for some time now, in fact the side-effects seem to have increase in intensity. Grunting I did another chin-up, fully aware of the burning sensation in my arms, sighing I dropped down onto the ground and glanced at my fingers which were aching.
"It's one in the morning why are you even training?" a male voice asked breaking me out of my trance, whipping my head into the direction of his voice I made eye contact with the stranger.
"I couldn't sleep" I mumbled and he nodded as he walked towards me, slowly positioning my legs in a defensive stance I watched him approach me.
"I'm Matthew by the way" he smiled as he held out his hand, looking at it for a second I wondered if I should shake it or not. Grabbing his hand I smiled at him.
"The name's Dakota" I smiled and his eyes widened.
"You're Alpha Bradley's mate" he informed me and I snorted.
