I apologize for doing so many stories with songs, but this just came to me randomly last night. Yeah, It's sad... but It's also kinda sweet. I ship Jeffmads so hard, I might just die.

Thomas was asleep, finally. He hadn't been able to sleep ever since he was told that his best friend James Madison had stage 4 lung cancer. It broke his heart. He was there almost every day, never leaving James' side until the doctors literally had to drag him out. Thomas cried every time he was with James. James knew he wasn't gonna live, but he wanted Thomas to be there when he died.

However, Thomas didn't sleep for long, he had gotten a phone call that would change his life.

"Mr. Jefferson?"

"Yes?"

"You need to come to the hospital right now."

"Why? Is James okay? Is he alive?"

"Yes... But I'm afraid he isn't gonna make it through the night..."

Thomas' heart shattered. He dropped his phone and pulled on a sweater, he rushed out the door.

Thomas got to the hospital as fast as he could, he burst into James' room. His heart breaking further when he saw his best friend lying half-dead in the hospital bed. Thomas rushed to his side.

"Tommy?" His voice cracked and shakey.

"Yeah, It's me Darlin', I'm here." Thomas was already starting to cry. Everyone thought they were dating, and with one glance, it wasn't hard to tell why.

"Don't cry Tommy, there's nothing you can do."

"I-I know... But I just wish there was. Jemmy, I want more time with you."

James shakily rose a hand and wiped a tear from Thomas' cheek.

"Just make use of the time we have left." His voice faded and soft.

Thomas leaned over, connecting their lips softly. James melted into the kiss, enjoying every moment until Thomas pulled away.

"I wanted to do that... At least once."

"I love you, Tommy."

Thomas looked up at James, he was shocked James had admitted it. Thomas had felt the same way for so long but never made a move. Now he wished he had.

"I love you too James."

James' eyes began to fade as he neared the endless slumber that awaited him. He managed to ask one final thing of Thomas.

"S-sing f-for me? Tommy, p-please sing me t-to sleep." The soft voice of James Madison became softer and more hoarse.

Thomas nodded, knowing exactly the song James wanted to hear. He grabbed James' hand, holding it tightly.

"Some say, love, it is a river." He began. James smiled.

"That drowns the tender reed... Some say, love, it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed. Some say, love, it is a hunger. An endless, aching need."

James managed to squeeze Thomas' hand softly. Thomas began to cry, his voice cracking as he continued.

"I say love it is a flower, and you, It's only seed. It's the heart afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance. It's the dream afraid of waking, that never takes the chance. It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give. And the soul afraid of dying, that never learns to live."

Thomas looked into James' dying eyes. He cries harder, barely choking out the next words.

"And the night has been too lonely. And the road has been too long. And you think that love is only."

Thomas' voice cracked.

"For the lucky, and the strong."

James' smile began to fade as the light drained from his eyes. He was barely holding on to Thomas' hand.

"J-just remember... In the winter, far beneath the bitter snow. Lies the seed that with the sun's love."

James' hand began to slip from Thomas'.

"In the Spring, becomes the rose..."

Thomas held the last note softly as James' hand fell to his side and he closed his eyes, taking a final labored breath.

And letting it go.

Thomas cried hard and froze in sadness as he heard the heart monitor flatline.

And his heart shattered into millions of pieces.

"I love you James..."
