I... I don't know what to say... (High trigger warning.)

I just... I don't know what to say anymore. 2 terrorist attacks on the same weekend, in two different countries that share such a special bond.

To any Americans that don't know, on September 30th In Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a Somalian refugee ran a U-Haul truck into 4 people, though none were killed, It's still devastating. It still has such a strong impact. I live in Calgary, a city 3 hours south of Edmonton. What drives people to do these things is beyond me. ISIS claimed the attack, it was an act of violence that I can't comprehend.

But that seems like nothing to what happened in Las Vegas.

No doubt you all know what happened, on October 1st, at 10:08PM, Steven Paddock smashed the window of his hotel room and fired into a crowd of over 2,000 people attending a Jason Aldean concert. 59 were reported dead, 4 of which were Canadian. But the citizenship of those people doesn't matter, they were all just people. Innocent lives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters. They were people. And their voices are gone now. I can't imagine what some families are going through right now... My step-dad was born and raised in Vegas, the attack hit him in a special place.

A city that was America's light, a city people felt safe in.

A place you could be yourself and no one would judge.

A place that once held so much joy, now it only holds grief and misery.

A place you felt at home when you would go there,
The city of light once flourished with joy.
He came from no-where,
The only intent was to destroy.

Destroy love and life once felt.
By those who had a future ahead.
A future lost, from the pain that he dealt.
You look down, you see where they bled.

The people who had not even one clue.
That their life would end, in the flash of a light.
Lives now lost, when they were not yet due.
This man went down, without a fight.

Families left, devastated and erased.
Kids with no mom.
Like their parents were just waste.
In this pain, hopefully, they find calm.

Calm like the silence, that followed the bang.
Where screams and wails were heard at first.
When the man shot out and his gun rang.
His thoughts and wants only a bloodthirst.

To plan a murder and to take their lives.
Takes a man. One sick of mind.
A man in hell, where he now thrives.
After terrorizing, so many of mankind.

Thoughts and prayers for the people now gone.
And those who are left, their minds now scarred.
I hope they have the strength to live on.
So one day in the future, they'll sit in their yard.

Sit and tell the tale of pain.
How they lost the people they once cherished.
They'll sit and watch the falling rain.
That falls on the streets, where lives had perished.

That's just a poem I wrote. I cried while writing it. I still can't even imagine the pain of those affected.

I'm not posting a story with this, this is just an A/N. Normally I would never post just an author's note, but this is an incident that can't be ignored. I had a story I wanted to write, but I'm putting it off for a few months because of where it was supposed to take place.

If you're Canadian like I am, enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend. Spend time with your families. If you know someone involved in the Vegas Massacre, then I am deeply sorry. I truly do wish that we lived in a world where people didn't do this. But it happens, and everytime it does, we come together and we pray. I'm gonna take a bit of time, I'll post a story on monday but for now, we all need time to comprehend what happened.

I send my love to America, and I send my thoughts and prayers of well-being to those affected by the actions of Steven Paddock.
