My head snapped towards the direction of the window. I held my breath and listened. There were strange noises in the distance and a faint thumping on the ground. A giant mass of fire sped by, making me flinch and causing my heart rate to accelerate. I bolted out of the room and ran outside.
I gasped, staring at the nightmare in front of me. A large group of Malin's monsters were on the loose, charging out of the island and onto the mainland. I shook my head, mind racing. I tried convincing myself that it was an accident, that the monsters had accidentally escaped and that Malin would contain them. But deep down I knew the truth.
Tears stung my eyes as I stood there, feeling beyond stupid and beyond naive. I forced the tears back, knowing that they wouldn't fix anything. I thought about messaging my friends to warn them, but ever since I stepped onto Dark Forest Island, my main menu had stopped working. With a sudden impulse, I ran after the monsters. The grey sands of the shore came to view, and before I even knew what I was doing, I headed straight for the waters.
Inches away from reaching the water, I ran face-first into an invisible wall, blasting me backwards with a powerful shock of electricity. I groaned as I hit the ground, squeezing my eyes shut. I stood up slowly, and gazed at the force field in front of me, feeling my body tremble . The monsters continued to stream out without a problem, not being affected by the force field whatsoever. Because it's a spell... Not to keep anyone out, but to keep me in...
I clenched my jaw and, in anger, pounded on the force field using every bit of strength that I had in me. Every impact burned and sizzled my knuckles, shooting out a deep, stinging pain, but I still didn't stop.
I slowly gave out and crumbled onto the ground, cradling my searing, bloody knuckles. Tears finally escaped my eyes as I choked back sobs. I'm so stupid, it's pathetic. Malin had me right where he wanted, and as soon as he trapped me, he let out his army of creatures.
I continued to insult myself in my mind as I cried, when I heard someone laughing close by. Malin stood in front of me, wearing an expression that seemed partly annoyed and partly amused.
"You humans are so dramatic! And aren't you an ugly little thing when you cry?" I glared at him. "It's too bad your Creator isn't around to fix those marred knuckles of yours, isn't it?"
"You're a liar," I said, ignoring his comments as I began to stand up slowly. "And a coward-"
"Now, now, Love. I kept my promise. I said that if you didn't come to my island, I would release all of the monsters. And in case you didn't notice, I only let out a few of them."
"A few!? More like a few thousands!"
"Oh don't exaggerate, it was a few hundred."
"Let me out of here!" I yelled out, taking a step towards him.
His face hardened. "I'm keeping my side of the bargain, so you have to keep yours."
"But you weren't suppose to release any monsters!"
Malin rolled his eyes. "Didn't we just go over this? I wasn't suppose to release all of the monsters together, and I didn't." He grabbed me by my shoulders. "I'm running out of patience."
"So am I." I gritted through my teeth. I struggled to pull out of his grasp, but he only clutched me tighter. Forgetting about my wounded fists, I pounded at his chest, only making me cry out in pain.
"Why don't I just kill you now?"
I was about to respond, when I felt my insides turn to lava. I clutched my torso, as I drew in staccato breaths. My knees buckled and Malin pushed me onto the ground.
