Beth's POV~~~~
"Let's go," Megan said gently. "She's not here."
I turned away, unable to look her in the eye without bursting into tears.
"It's too dangerous to stay here any longer..." She continued, tears swelling in her eyes as well. Ally pulled down her main menu and searched for Dawn for the millionth time; only to get the same results.
We were on Dark Forest Island, one of the three islands of SkyFall. The trees around us were dead and leafless, their branches twisting wickedly in all directions. The bushes were dry and full of sharp thorns. Not a single trace of plant life was found. Not even the tiniest of flowers or a patch of green grass. We were so deep into the forest that we couldn't even see the light of day. Just standing there would give someone the chills.
There was a howl of a wolf. And it was eerily close to where we were.
"B-Beth.. We need to go..." Ally said, looking around uneasily. Before I could answer, there was a rustle in the bushes. No doubt a dark forest creature.
"Okay," I finally managed to say. An owl swooped down from out of no where and flew off, leaving us screaming from fright. I looked up into the trees, only to find bats hanging upside-down from the branches. We began to make our way back to the edge of the island, using our maps as a guide.
There was another rustle from a bush and a threatening growl.
"Beth..." Megan clung to me for dear life. It sprang out from the darkness, it's teeth bearing and drool dripping from its mouth. But even worse than it's razor-sharp teeth, were its razor-sharp claws. They were long, thick, and pointy, capable of slicing us in half with a single slash. It's dark fur was caked with dried blood. It was a one-headed voltar.
"Step back," I told Ally and Megan. They did so without a single protest. My heart reached wildly. What next? I'll use flame blast. I swirled my hands together and released a steady flame of fire. It only lasted about three seconds, then sputtered to a stop. It was a newly acquired move, and I had not yet mastered it.
The one-headed voltar was sent flying backwards from the impact. "Did you kill it?" Ally asked.
I wish. When I played SkyFall, I would encounter a voltar a few times, but even then they were difficult to handle. And now that I was actually face-to-face with one, the difficulty was unimaginable.
"No, the only way to kill a voltar is with an emerald-edged gem sword."
"A what?" I had no time to answer. The voltar sprang from the ground, unaffected by the flame blast. It lunged at me and tackled me to the ground. It's giant paws were heavy on my chest. It's long claw-tips were right under my chin. The voltar's hot, foul breath was in my face, and its drool dribbled onto me cheek. Megan and Ally desperately shot shadow balls at the voltar, but it was no use. It growled and lunged at my throat.
An arrow shot out from the trees, piercing the voltar right through it neck. Wait, that's not an arrow. It's a sword. And not just any sword; an emerald-edged gem sword. With a yelp of pain the voltar fell to the side, relieving me from the heavy pressure of its paws.
Emerging from the trees, and looking around disgustedly stood Clarissa. Clarissa. The snobby girl from my Spanish class. Trailing behind her was a guy in a long coat. He was tall and lean, yet fairly muscular. His hair was short, with slight curls forming. Also, he held a curved scimitar.
"Eww! That dog is hideous!" Clarissa cried out.
I pulled out the gem sword from the voltar's neck. Dark blood dripped off of it in to process. I saw Megan's face grow three shades paler. I didn't even flinch. "Here's your gem sword, and thanks." I handed it to the guy, knowing that Clarissa wouldn't dare touch it.
