"Found it!"
"That's a rock."
Owen scowled. "Behind the rock". Sure enough, as he pushed the boulder to the side, something similar to a portal came to view. However, it was tiny, the size of my hand.
"Okay, so how are we gonna make it bigger?" Jacob asked.
"About that... I'm gonna need some of your guys' blood..."
"What?" Beth stared at Owen like he had grown a second head.
I scowled. "Why does that seem to be the main ingredient to everything?"
"When Logan was creating all of this, he decided to use an ingredient that didn't exist in this world, that way Malin would never escape his island and all that. It's ironic that now there's a fresh supply of it everywhere you look."
"Well now that abundant supply is about to save his life," I answered as I took Beth's pocket knife and sliced my palm open.
"Dawn!" Beth snapped.
"What? There's no time to waste!"
Owen quickly grabbed a glass vial from his coat and held my hand above the opening. The vial was only one-eighth full when he pulled it away and handed me a cloth to hold against my hand. "You should have made the cut somewhere else, now you can't use that hand until it heals up."
I shrugged.
Owen reached into his coat again and drew a clear box with something glowing inside. Seeing our puzzled looks, he said, "Some of Malin's raw energy. Don't even ask how he managed it; I have no idea... I guess being trapped on an island for centuries can give you a lot of free time..."
"How much stuff do you have in there?" Megan gestured to his coat.
"It's a combat coat; it's built to hold practically everything." He poured my blood onto the energy, making it vibrate as it turned a deep orange color. The energy began moving faster, pounding on the sides of the box as Owen pressed the lid tightly closed.
"Step back," he warned. Owen held the top of the box at the very entrance of tear, then pulled off the lid. The energy whooshed into the tear and diffused into it, making the tear glow the same shade of orange.
"Okay here comes the tricky part," Owen began. We waiting for him to continue, but he seemed almost frightened. "The tear was supposed to open over the course of a few days. As soon as Malin caught Logan, I was supposed to come here and do this, then in about 3 days it would be wide enough to enter. But we obviously don't have days; we need to speed up this process. But like I said, there can be consequences, I-I can't say for sure. We are messing with the fabric of our dimension. It can negatively alter the fabric of another dimension... Hell, it can blow us up for all I know. And the dangers will only increase now..."
I clasped and unclasped my fist; the tension was only making me jittery. I cleared my throat, "How will we speed things up?"
"We are going to force it open. Do any of you guys happen to be master-leveled?"
"Only Asher," Jacob answered.
"Expert-leveled?" We shook our heads. He sighed, "Well, I guess that leaves a lot of it to me." With an upwards gesture of his hand, several vines protruded from the ground. They reached into the tear and pulled against the edges. Owen's fists turned to metal then he split into five identicals.
"What the-! Since when was that a specialty move?!" I practically fell backwards.
"Since forever, Dawn!" Beth answered. "It's called Duplicate."
