My eyes suddenly snapped open. The arms around me pulled me closer, the person holding me mumbled in his sleep. I recognized his familiar scent and closed my eyes, savoring the moment before I forced myself to gently pull away from him.

My movement woke him up. Logan sighed with relief, "I'm glad you're back."

I looked at the ground, searching for words to say.

"What's wrong?" He frowned. "Did he hurt you?"

I shook my head and stood up, unable to look him in the eye. "I- I have to go."

"Dawn, whatever he told you to do, don't do it-"

"You don't understand," I whispered.

"Don't give him what he wants, please, Dawn." I closed my eyes to prevent my tears from escaping. I turned and walked to the direction of the island, knowing I didn't have much time. Logan followed, trying to convince me to stay.

"Malin won't keep any of the promises he made you."

"He'd probably keep this one: if I don't go to Dark Forest Island, he's going to release another monster army that's a thousand times worse than the current one. I don't want to be the cause of our defeat." I reached the shore of the mainland and noticed there was a stone path in the water. Malin must have put it there.

Logan took my hand and lifted my chin, giving me no choice but to look into his eyes. "If you go, I might never see you again," he whispered.

"But if I don't, we're all gonna die."

"Don't pick him over me," he said softly.

"Logan, I'm picking you. That's why I'm leaving. Because, I know I haven't known you for that long, but, I- I think I love you."

"If you love me like I love you, stay." Tears brimmed his red, puffy eyes, making me instantly hate myself. I hope you're happy, Dawn. What type of sick person makes their loved one cry like this? I didn't deserve him. He deserves someone so much better than me...

I shook my head and pulled away from him, tears trailing down my cheeks. "I want you to live, so that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to keep you alive. Tell my friends that I love them."

I crossed the stone path and stepped onto the cold shore of Dark Forest Island. I turned back to look at Logan's hurt expression. He starred back at me as I stepped backwards, letting the darkness of the island engulf me.

"That was quite a show, I was just about to pull out some popcorn."

I glared at Malin, not finding his joke the least bit funny.

"Too soon?" He asked.

"Ya think?" He led me to a dark castle at the center of the island. I like Logan's better...

"How did my friends come here without seeing this?" I gestured to the castle, talking more to myself than to him.

"Invisibility spell," he said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Malin put his hand on my shoulder as he opened the door for me. I shrugged it off and stepped inside.

The room was dark to the point that my eyes had to adjust so that I could see properly. "You can't afford electricity or something?"

He chuckled. "Just because you can't see well doesn't mean I can't either."

"Shocker," I said sarcastically. "You're used to darkness-no, wait- you are darkness. I'm not."

He gripped my jaw tightly. "You're lucky I find you amusing."
