Beth's POV~~~~
I woke up and groaned loudly, the cold ground gnawing at my skin. I was on cold pavement, face first. Looks like the abyss really did have a bottom, and I totally crash-landed on it.
I rolled over onto my back, surprised that I felt no pain whatsoever. Staring up, I saw nothing but darkness, in fact, it was all around me. Looks like I'm in some deep shi-
A voice interrupted my thoughts, "Beth Villegas." Am I suppose to reply? "Your time is not over yet."
I sat up, and looked around, but couldn't find who the voice belonged to. It echoed all around me, making it impossible to figure out its exact location.
"Stand up."
I didn't object.
"Walk straight and you will see a portal. Enter it. That is your fate."
I gulped.
"Go now, Beth Villegas. Your fate is waiting."
I step forward slowly, then continued walking at a leisurely pace. The only things I heard were deathly silence and my own thoughts replaying in my head. How much timed has passed? Where the hell am I? What's going on back on the mainland? Is everyone dead? Are they all in trouble? Why is Malin such a psychopath? Oh, and WHERE DOES THIS SO CALLED PORTAL LEAD TO!?!?
I quickened my pace, unsure of how long it was taking, or if time even existed in this place. About 40 footsteps later, I saw a small speck of light in the distance. As I got closer, it was indeed a portal, exactly like the one back in the Base.
Clear, slight shades of pink and blue on the edges, and jiggly at the touch. I poked at it. Once. Twice. It was fun. The last -and only- time I entered one, I knew where it was taking me. This time, not so much.
For all I know it might be a one-way ticket to Hell... Or maybe I'll end up back on Earth, meaning I'll die instantly... Maybe I'll travel back in time. Man, that'd be cool...
I took a deep breath, steadying my shaking knees. I put my hand through it then pulled back. My hand was still in one piece, so I took it as a good sign.
Okay Beth, no more messing around. I step into the portal, feeling it mold around me until I broke through it. Bright sunlight blasted before me, and it didn't help that only seconds ago I had been in complete darkness. I rubbed my eyes a few times and looked around me. Holy crap.
The dark land before me was barren, nothing but fallen trees and gray sands. I quickly realized that it wasn't sunlight that had shone at my face, that light was simply caused by the portal. Here, the skies were dark, as if a hurricane were coming. Lightening flashed in the sky and cold wind sent my hair soaring into the air, as if it had a mind of its own.
"Hello?" I whispered. I was on a small hill, and as I walked down it, water met my feet. It wasn't a puddle, it was as if part of an ocean was making it's way to the land. I need to find a safe spot.
I stepped into the cold waters, determined to find any place of shelter, maybe some inhabitants of the land. Hopefully I don't step on any fish... The water was at my waist when something zipped past me. Then something else.
Then I saw a strange creature. She looked like a woman, but there was something odd about her skin. It seemed sort of transparent, but maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me. She had perfectly chiseled facial features with deep red lips. Her almond-shaped eyes were -wow- mint green.
"E-excuse me..."
She giggled, then in the blink of an eye, she was no longer a random woman, but a golden retriever puppy. It barked once then rolled over. Is this how people hallucinate when they're on drugs? It ran towards me, and stopped just before it touched the waters. Then, it turned into, well, me. It was as if I were staring into a mirror, except my eyes were brown, not mint.
