(Chapter 44)
*Adrian's POV*
Wednesday evening after school, I had my arms folded and leaned against my car, sunglasses on and a loose T-shirt with black jeans. The summer heat was still adding pressure to my wardrobe choices. "Hey," Alyssa came up wearing frayed denim shorts and a white tank top. I pecked her cheek and then opened the door for her to sit in. "I had THE most amazing yoga class in like history!" She commented as she took a seat and I went over and started the car. "Really? I could give you some pretty fun classes too.. In the bedroom" I smirked and I caught her roll her eyes as she put on her seatbelt. "Seatbelt on Skyler! Being a bad boy doesn't mean you can forget those safety tips I gave you after the accident" She warned and I nodded obediently.
My phone rang halfway on our drive home, Alyssa slapped my hand away. "Eyes on the road, I'll pick it up" I sighed but obliged. "Hey, Kira, Adrian's just driving can I pass a message" She spoke lightly into the phone. There was a pause as Alyssa's brow furrowed. "What do you mean?" Her voice went all serious and I looked over concerned but she snapped her fingers and pointed to the road again. "Uhhuh..Hmm..What!?.. Shit" "What happened?" I asked nervously only to be ignored. "Crap, crap, crap, crap. Okay, I'm coming right over to your place with Adrian now. W-We can talk about things there." Alyssa pressed a hand to her temple. There was a short pause and then Alyssa said "Okay, sure, thanks Kira. See you.. Bye" Alyssa hung up and I gave her a questioning look but she looked away. "Hey what's wrong?" I asked confused and took a turn onto the street where I lived. She covered her face with her hands and I tried not to freak out. "Hey, Cinnamon what's going on? What did she say.. Alyssa??" I began to feel my voice grow desperate with anticipation, my hands shook on the steering wheel. She shook her head, took a deep breath and looked back at me, her voice trying to stay calm as she asked the worst question ever. "Have you been drug dealing?"
**
The only thing worse than that question to me was the answer. Yes, I had been dealing drugs. Kira, Alyssa and I were standing in the living room, my stepdad and mom were at work. "How did you know?" I tried not to sound accusatory at Kira, I knew this was completely and utterly my fault. "The night you came back from Venice, I had been in your room waiting to apologise and.. And I found some hidden in your pillow case" Kira's tone was uncertain and careful as she handed some pills in a plastic cover to me like they were fire. I snatched them and glared at them like I could make them disappear. Disappear and not ruin everything. Things had finally worked out with Alyssa and now I could feel her slipping. Slipping out of my grasp and away from me again. She collapsed on the couch, her forehead creased and hands clenched. "How long-?" Her voice cracked. "When you talked about going to Venice." I lowered my gaze, feeling ashamed. I hadn't done the right thing. That made me wrong. The confession sounded foreign in my mind, I'd never fully knew that I was 'Wrong'. But everything about this scenario was Wrong. Wrong was written all over the place.
"I seriously didn't mean to invade your privacy, Adrian" what Kira was really saying was 'Are you mad at me?'. No. No I wasn't. I was mad at everything about ME. "No, you shouldn't apologise. We had to know this" Alyssa growled quietly before I could say anything. "Alyssa," Using the nickname 'Cinnamon' didn't feel right anymore now. Because it was what I did that mattered. Whether I chose 'right' or 'wrong' NOW. Not then. Not later. Now. "Please just hear me out on this one. Please" I begged and she glowered at me but nodded. "I never intended on using my mom's money in the first place. I love her like I love you and I know she's worked really hard for it-" "And that's why I fucking told you to accept your stepdad's money instead" Alyssa's swearing punched me in the gut and even Kira looked taken aback. "I know! And I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!" I cried and Alyssa stood up annoyed and walked over to the coffee table, grabbed a vase and smashed it on the floor. I flinched my eyes wide and Kira covered her mouth in shock at the broken pieces. "I'm sorry" She said in a low voice her eyes wild. "I'M SORRY AND DOES THAT FIX THIS?! NO, IT DOES NOT ADRIAN SKYLER!" She screamed, kicking glass shards away. "Alyssa. C-Calm down. Please" I stayed rooted to my place my hands shaking as she sat on the couch and hid her face in her hands.
"I only did it to get the tickets and everything, I promised I've stopped and got rid of everything that Kira didn't.. Take" I spoke again my voice begging her to understand. "That's not just it, Adrian. It's the fact that you couldn't even put your ego away for a moment to agree and take the money that your stepdad offered you. You could've just taken it instead of.. Instead of.. What you did! But no, Adrian Skyler is the BAD BOY. What's the term humble to him? He only knows rash and ego and cool right?" She snapped. "I can't undo what I did. Please-" "You know, I was going to ask you to meet my parents. Its funny actually, I was hoping for a fresh start between you guys. You know, boyfriend meeting parents and all. I told them that you were a smart, caring and amazing boy. But what you did is the opposite of all three." She laughed coldly. "I can't tell you how much I regret it. You're right. I should've put away my ego and stopped caring so much about my dignity. I'm extremely sorry." I apologised and ran my hands through my hair. Alyssa sighed in defeat and leaned back, wiping tears that weren't there a minute ago. "SO now what.. Who were you dealing with. Is EVERYTHING gone?" Kira asked and I looked at her and nodded. "Can we let this go please. I'm done with it, so..?" I trailed and she nodded understandingly and took the packet out of my hands, gingerly. "I'll throw it away" And then she stepped over the glass and left us alone.
Alyssa stood up and collapsed into my arms and I held her tight to my chest. "I'm so sorry" "And I'm sorry about the vase" She sniffled and I chuckled. "I gotta say you're damn savage when your pissed." I smirked, trying to get back into a good mood. "Yeah and you looked like you were going to piss your pants when I was pissed" She laughed and I planted a kiss on the top of your head and hugged her to my side. "C'mon lets go get a drink, I need one" "Aye aye" She pressed herself against my side and we left. Her warmth radiating onto me. They say too much radiation sucks for you. But to me, I'd swallow the whole damn sun if I could just, if it felt the way she did.
