Chapter eighteen:
Abby's p.o.v.
Tonight's the night that Steve and I get to have our first date. I never would've thought that my first date would be in the hospital, but I guess some things can't be helped, I'm okay with it though. Steve is currently working on asking Daniel, Dan, Kyle and Emma to leave my hospital room that way we could have some alone time, because that's really what a date's supposed to be about spending time with the person that you like, no matter where your date is going to be. Soon they left, but not before they said bye to us and promised that they would be back before eight thirty. When they left, Steve opened up the basket.
"What did they pack for us to eat?" I asked.
"They packed some apple juice, orange juice, some mini sandwiches without the crust and something for dessert which I'm not aloud to tell you until we're at the part of our meal," he said.
"It sounds great," I said.
"I think it will be." He said. He handed me some orange juice and a mini sandwich. I bit into the sandwich, it tasted good, but then again almost anything would taste good if you've been stuck in the hospital for two and half days, barely eating anything because you've been given an iv that's been feeding you since you arrived in the hospital. I was really happy to be eating real food, instead of an iv being hooked up to me and feeding me that way. I'm finally starting to feel way better than I did when I first got here. I ate about three mini sandwiches before I was ready for some dessert.
"Wow you must've been real hungry," Steve said, looking up at me.
"After being fed by an iv tube for the past two and half days, it feels good to have some real food inside my stomach," I said.
"I'll bet it does." He said. He took a few more minutes to finish eating his dinner, but I was full so I guess it was a good thing that I was done first, that way I could relax while Steve finished eating his main course.

Steve's p.o.v.
To tell the truth, when Abby first came to the hospital I was really scared because I didn't want anything more to happen to her, I mean she's already been through way too much in the last six years, she shouldn't have gotten cancer for the second time or third time in the past two years. I guess Stephen and Daniel were also kind of scared, I mean Abby's their sister and they care a lot about her, I can only imagine how Megan and Rick were feeling when their youngest child had to go to the hospital to get treatment for cancer. Everyone is just hoping that Abby gets better soon. The only good news that we know as of now, is that Abby is able to come home at the end of the weekend, but she has to stay home and rest for the next week or two that way she'll feel way better when she's able to go back to school. Anyways after I finished eating my main course, I looked in the basket once again and took out the dessert. Daniel and Stephen had asked Dan, Kyle and Emma to make a soft cake for Abby and I and if course they made it and it tasted really good. I could tell that Abby really enjoyed it because she didn't say a word the whole time that she was eating it. I was happy that she was getting better, because I know that she's been hurting for the past two and a half days. All of next week when the school day is over, I have a feeling that, Dan, Kyle, Emma and I will end up going to the Richter house to check up on Abby and see how she's doing. Right now though, visiting the hospital would have to do, but at least after tomorrow we get to take Abby back home sometime in the late morning or early afternoon on Sunday.
Eight thirty came fast. Abby was now cuddled up against me on her hospital bed, I could tell that she was getting bored of being in the hospital, I know that if I were her, I would be bored as well.
I took a strand of her hair and tucked it behind her ear, she moved even closer to me and I just held her in my arms like that. I could tell that she was comfy, because she was making no effort to move away or anything. It felt nice that she was in my arms.
"Steve," she said.
"Abby," I said.
"Can I ask you something?" She asked.
"Of course," I said.
"Why do you like me?" She asked. I'll admit that that was a question that I didn't think she would ever ask me.
"I like you because you're beautiful, you're smart, you're smile is big enough to light up the whole room and you've been through a lot of things that have made you stronger than anyone else that I know," I said. She smiled at that.
"Thanks Steve, no one has ever said that to me before," she said.
"That's because no one has ever taken the time to get to know the real Abby other than Stephen, Daniel, Kyle, Dan, Emma and myself," I said.
"It means a lot to me," she said.
"Now, why do you like me?" I asked. I wanted to know what she would say to me.
"I like you because you're handsome, you're funny, you're one of the sweetest guys that I know and you're one of the few people that have made me happy and I'm happy that you're in my life," she said.
"I'm glad I could be of help," I said.
"Thanks for everything tonight," she said.
"You're welcome, I wanted to bring the date to you,"I said.
"I'm glad that you did," she said.
"Abby once you're out of the hospital and you're feeling well enough would you like to go out with me?" I asked.
"I'd love to go out with you once I'm out of the hospital and feel much better," she said.
"So it's settled, our date will likely be in a few weeks but until then we'll just have movie nights every Friday night," I said.
"Perfect." She said. I was happy that she said yes that she would like to go out with me, once she's feeling well enough to be able to handle it, but for now we'll be able to have movie nights at her house, which would be nice. The next thing I knew was that Abby had fallen asleep. She looked so peaceful when she was sleeping, like nothing was hurting her.
If I could take away the pain that Abby is going through, believe me I would, because I don't want her to be hurting anymore.
