*all of the fluff. Because fuck you I'm the author.*
David had a bunch of paper work he said he needed to fill out about the camp. He's been doing that kind of stuff for a while, so I figured I'd just let him get it over with. I smiled as I said goodnight, not realizing how bad of a night this would be for me.
I woke up four times from nightmares, the last one being at four in the morning, but terrifying as all hell. David had been brutally murdered, the kids tortured one by one in front of me, the mans face far too familiar...
My father.
I jumped out of bed, rushing outside into the cold rain towards the kids tents, making sure that each and everyone of their unconscious bodies was alright. All were sleeping, all were safe. I sprinted to Davids cabin, tripping and falling before I could make it.
I pulled myself to all fours, coughing up dirt, and sobbing. The rain began to pour heavier as a dim light made its way slowly over to me, until it began to quicken.
"(Y/N)?! What are you doing out here?!" David asked panicking. "C-Come on, it's freezing..."
David helped me to my feet, soon holding me in one arm as I straddled his stomach. I was crying into his shoulder as he picked up the lateen again, walking carefully to his cabin. He placed me in a chair just as I couldn't cry anymore, which allowed him to search for dry clothes.
"I know it doesn't fit, but I'm sure it would be best to change out of those soaking clothes." He said, handing me a dry hoodie.
I couldn't find the will to grab it from him, I felt so exhausted ... so tired of fighting away these nightmares...
David sighed, and apologized for what he was going to do. He lifted my shirt up, desperately trying not to look at my chest, and replacing the wet shirt with the hoodie. He threw the shirt somewhere in the corner as he ran back to his dresser, grabbing a pair of baggy sweatpants. He helped me change out of my shorts too, and soon carried me to bed.
"Darling, I don't want to push you into saying anything, but why are you so shaken? And why were you outside out of all places?"
"N-Nightmare..." I whispered as I laid down on his bed.
He hummed in acknowledgment, laying in the bed next to me. He pulled me onto him, so that my head was on his chest, as he began to run his hand through my hair.
"You wanna tell me what happened?" He asked softly.
I shook my head, not because I didn't want to, but because I was afraid that if I dared to speak, I would begin sobbing again. He simply began singing our camps theme slowly, at a tone of voice that was oddly calming, until I felt myself become fully calm.
"I'm sorry..." I muttered. "I didn't mean to wake you..."
"No, you should have came to me the moment you woke up!"
"I-The kids... my father had tortured them, saving you for last..." I shook my head. "I just... I had to be sure..."
"It's okay." He said. "Everyone's okay..."
"David I... I was so scared..."
"I know, but it was just a dream honey, just a dream. Your dads gone, and he's not going to ever hurt any of us. I promise."
"You can't promise something like that..." I muttered. "Something like that is... its unexpected..."
"So then why worry about it?" He chuckled. "Darling, nothing's going to go wrong. We're a family now, and our family is going to be perfectly fine."
"David-"
"(Y/N), I'm serious. Everything, everyone, will be perfectly fine. You're amazing, and we'll figure everything and anything out together."
"I don't want to be the reason you get hurt..." I whispered.
"Nothing can get to us as long as we're together. And if we're apart, the memory of us together will be enough to keep danger away. Alright?"
"I love you..." I said softly, feeling my eyelids grow heavier and heavier.
"Goodnight, love."
